Yep, Apple has just introduced the new MacBook Pro that features the wonderfully awesome and price raising retina display! Yep now Apple users can claim that their laptop has a better resolution that an HDTV. Oh whatever, just read the PR to learn more, I’ve got other stuff to do than get excited about an overpriced laptop….

Apple® today unveiled an all new 15-inch MacBook® Pro featuring a stunning Retina™ display, all flash storage and quad-core processors in a radically thin and light design. Measuring a mere 0.71 inches and weighing only 4.46 pounds, the completely redesigned MacBook Pro sets a new standard in performance and portability for pro users.

The new MacBook Pro Retina display is the world’s highest resolution notebook display with over 5 million pixels, 3 million more than an HD television. At 220 pixels-per-inch, the Retina display’s pixel density is so high the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels from a normal viewing distance, so text and graphics look incredibly sharp. The Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle, and has 75 percent less reflection and 29 percent higher contrast than the previous generation.

Featuring a precision engineered aluminum unibody design and an all flash storage architecture, the all new MacBook Pro is the lightest MacBook Pro ever and nearly as thin as a MacBook Air®. Flash storage that is up to four times faster than traditional notebook hard drives enables the all new MacBook Pro to play four simultaneous streams of uncompressed 1080p HD video from internal storage.* The flash storage architecture also delivers improved reliability, instant-on responsiveness and 30 days of standby time.

The MacBook Pro with Retina display features the latest Intel Core i7 quad-core processors up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.7 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M discrete graphics, up to 16GB of faster 1600 MHz RAM and flash storage up to 768GB. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is available with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage starting at $2,199 (US); and with a 2.6 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz, 8GB of memory and 512GB of flash storage starting at $2,799 (US).   1. And therein lies the crux of the matter: Apple products are Too High Above My Comfortable Pricepoint, no matter how good they may or may not be. The competition simply isn’t That Much worse to justify it. For other people, they are, and more power to them.

  2. I just ordered one with the 2.6GHz i7 and 16GB RAM :) Sadly, they’re not shipping until the 29th at the earliest at this point – meaning they’ve already sold through all existing inventory!!

    I know Apple love around here is scarce, but they truly do make the best laptops (and in my opinion phones and tablets too) and the price is worth it if you ask me. I have loved every second of my MacBook Air, but it’s now time to bequeath that glorious device to my wife and take ownership of this incredible new beast. CAN NOT WAIT!

  4. Hmm, it’s less that the price is worth it, it’s more that even if I HAD disposable income (which I really don’t) I can’t justify the more than 2x, darn near 3x, the cost of something else which does the job as well, without the name.
    I don’t know – maybe I’m simply less brand-loyal, or my cost-to-benefit ratio is really low – but the price gulf between Apple and any other manufacturer’s product is just beyond my comprehension. It’s like buying a nice shirt, and buying a nice shirt with a logo on it: the logo (to me) doesn’t justify the premium. The quality does, but only to a point where my wallet doesn’t start whining. And right now, it whines at a very low price.

    It’s almost as if Apple products are becoming more and more of a luxury item within their respective product circles: do you get the Ford or the Cadillac? On a practical level, I see no benefit of the latter, and would rather have the workhorse than the show pony.

    But enjoy your MBP :) And write about it!!!

  5. It’s all about personal position, preference, and priorities (I love a little alliteration…). I’ll just be insanely jealous that you are in that position, and keep good-naturedly (I hope) ribbing you about it.
