AT&T Samsung Captivate upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3
If you are a Samsung Captivate owner on AT&T then check out the new update that is now available for you. AT&T has just announced that Android 2.3, otherwise known as Gingerbread is now available. The AT&T Captivate, their first real Android device was very well received after much criticism for sticking too closely with Apple’s iPhone while other carriers like Verizon and Sprint were miles ahead with their Android offering. The Captivate, which is really a rebranded version of the Samsung Galaxy S device that started the massive success for Samsung in the Android market. Samsung later would follow up with an even more successful Galaxy S II. If you are holding out until the end of your contract to get the next best device, then take heart in that you can upgrade to Android’s latest operating system for their platform for at least a short period of time. Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich, version 4.0 has hit the street exclusively with their own branded device called the Galaxy Nexus, also made by Samsung for them. It appears that a handful of new devices will be able to update to version 4.0 but I would not hold your breath Captivate owners!

Wow… maybe I won’t sell my Captivate just yet… I didn’t ever expect to see another update for it..
Crap.. I hate these kind of updates: “Warning! The upgrade process will Erase ALL User Data from the device, including contacts, messages and 3rd party applications. All settings will be reset to factory defaults.”
@kristofer brozio. Ha ha! I think you need to worry more about upgrading than thanking AT&T and Samsung for updating the legacy phone to a version behind of the latest sweet flavor of Android. :D.
It’s still a decent phone really, even though it’s again, it’s still fast and very well made..
I DID THE UPGRADE AND NOW MY PHONE IS TRASH CONSTANT “FORCE CLOSE” EVERY TIME I PLUG IN TO CHARGE LOCKS UP ALL THE TIME

TRIED CALLING PEOPLE WITH NO HELP WHAT SO EVER, LOVE THIS PHONE SO VERY SAD, AND DOESNT WANT TO BUY ANOTHER WICH SUCKS CAUSE PHONE WAS AMAZING.
I did this upgrade on my samsung capitivate and now my phone is having nothing but a tethering problem, I hate this update, this has screw up two $150 phones I just purchased and no one can help, samsung said they are working on the bugs, att cant help me either. Warning, dont do the update.
I updated my Captivate to the Android 2.3, otherwise known as Gingerbread and although it didn’t erase all user datda from the device, I have had some negative issues as listed below.
1.) Most negative is now my phone will just go black and I have to remove battery and restart.
2.) Phone freezes up and gives me a tethering error.
3.) My speaker volume is incredibly loud even on the lowest setting and hurts my ear to listen while talking on the phone.
If you havent updated yet, then I suggest you don’t….the updates it provides are just not worth it. The sad thing is I LOVED my phone before this and now I just want to throw it across the room half the time 🙁
I would love it if just one time this POS would work the way it say’s
NEVER has AT&T and Samsung been so Lame! I bet they NEVER test this stuff themselves on an actual device that is off the shelves they sell to the general public. I’m a 12 yrs. + AT&T customer and I have tons of other samsung gear. It just seems that wen it comes to phones The Quality control and testing is woefully inadequate. A simple thing like updating a phones firmware.. i.e. Captivate at Ver. 2.2 to Ver. 2.3 = FAIL!
I will think twice in a few weeks when my contract is up as I’m fed-up with
this mongaloid relationship they have going on.
