HTC TouchFlo 3D 2.5 Video Shows Deeper Integration Into Windows Than Ever Before

July 8th, 2009 — 1:56pm Posted by Doug Smith

Back on June 30th David K wrote a great article “What’s Your UI?” that breaks down all the different UI’s available and some of the highlights about each one. David then invited all of you to vote (you did vote right?) and the results were very surprising. In first place was Point UI and in second place was TouchFlo 3D (and TF3D 2.5). I was very surprised because I would have thought for sure Windows Mobile 6.5 would have done much better with the tons of Cooked ROM’s now sporting the UI. Our Forums have been very positive with the WinMo 6.5 UI. I however, have not been that knocked out with it and have stayed with TF3D from the TP2 and the Tachi Dialer. But in the What’s Your UI? article David briefly introduces TF3D 2.5 and sets the stage for what we have in store for you today! Pocketnow.com got their hands on a ROM from HTC that has the TouchFlo 3D 2.5 UI included and dropped this video on us! Before you watch it let me point out that it is very buggy and locked up at the end of the video, but it is clear that HTC has put a lot of time and energy into eliminating the Windows Mobile UI entirely from their devices. Check this video out:

Impressed right? As Brandon points out the large icons do lead one to believe that a capacitive screen is on the horizon from HTC. The possibility that HTC might soon be dropping a capacitive screen on us is just awesome! I know David and I both have been waiting for Windows Mobile devices to come with a capacitive screen for a long time, so this is almost a dream come true! Now you can only vote once on our Poll, but for all of you that have just seen HTC’s TouchFlo 3D 2.5 in action, does this change your mind? Rock on HTC!

Sony Ericsson’s “Rachael” Sporting New UI Goodness

July 8th, 2009 — 1:01pm Posted by Doug Smith

se-rachael-kiki I haven’t had a lot of time with Android, but looking at the new UI that the Sony Ericsson “Rachael” will be sporting I think I could get pretty excited about it! On top of a smooth looking UI, the Rachel will also sport the Snapdragon processor (drool) plus a 8 megapixel camera with auto focus. Throw in 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and this is really going to be a sweet device!

The other device pictured on the right is the Kiki which will fall under the “What were they thinking” in the design phase of this device category. We’ll keep you posted with more on “Rachael” and “Kiki” so stay tuned!

Motorola Endeavor HX1 BT Headset Announced

June 18th, 2009 — 11:28am Posted by Doug Smith

hx1 I am going to do my best to get through this article as professional as possible, but sometimes it is very difficult when manufacturers don’t think about the names they give their technology! In any case, Motorola has announced the release of the Endeavor HX1 BT Headset that features, and I quote:

the first headset to combine Motorola’s CrystalTalk(TM) noise cancellation technology with a stealth mode so you can hear and be heard in the fiercest environments. When the stealth mode is activated, true bone conduction technology relays only your voice while knocking out the most extreme noise and wind for a revolutionary premium headset experience. This experience makes Motorola Endeavor the only Bluetooth(1) headset to use true bone conduction technology, all without compromising comfort.

Now Aliph, who makes the Jawbone, has had a slightly different Bone Technology for some time now. But now with Motorola’s new Bone Technology, things are really going to start heating up once again in the Bluetooth Earpiece Market. I expect that the makers of the Jawbone may in fact have a “bone” to pick with Motorola for muscling in on their Bone (Technology). But the difference between the two Bones should be enough so no one else gets a “bone” about this either. Jawbone, the first to market with their Bone, works on vibrations received outside of the face whereas Motorola’s Bone when switched to Stealth Mode, because you always want your Bone to be Stealthy at the same time, works off the bone in the inner ear.  So how will the two Bones stack up? We will have to wait as Motorola’s HX1 has not been released yet and is set  for sometime in July in Asia. So unfortunately, the Asians will get Boned by Motorola first and we here in North America will have to wait to get Boned at a later date.

You can read the Motorola Press release after the break.

RapidRepair.com To Tear Apart An iPhone 3GS Friday

June 16th, 2009 — 10:01pm Posted by Doug Smith

iphone3gs

About a week ago I wrote an article about RapidRepair.com tearing apart the Palm Pre and exposing it’s inner workings and calculating the cost at $170.00 total. RapidRepair.com also writes instruction manuals for devices that are very detailed and break things down step by step including all the necessary tools. Of course, RapidRepair.com also repairs devices as well.

Today, RapidRepair.com announced that they would be tearing apart the new iPhone 3Gs and giving iPhone fans a first look at what’s under the hood. RapidRepair.com will also compare the iPhone against other devices including the Palm Pre which is the latest device to challenge the iPhone. We’ll have to wait and see how the new iPhone matches up in RapidRepair.com comparison. But as we wait for that, why tell us how you feel about how the iPhone stacks up against the Palm Pre or your favorite device!

Read the RapidRepair.com press release after the break.

Mobility Digest Writers Wanted

June 16th, 2009 — 3:01pm Posted by Doug Smith

mobilitydigesthelpwanted First thing is I want to thank everyone for stopping by Mobility Digest and helping us grow our community. It has been a lot of work getting the plan together for Mobility Digest and launching the website, and then rebranding the Forums to the Mobility Digest Forums. The reason behind this is that with all of the niche websites we have, I wanted to have one parent website that would always be the anchor to what we do. If you are new to Mobility Digest, then let me take a quick second to introduce you to our other websites. First there is Tilt Mobility, which is a niche website dedicated to the AT&T Tilt and HTC TyTN II, and second is Fuze Mobility which is another niche website dedicated to the AT&T Fuze and HTC Touch Pro. We have an excellent team of Writers, Developers, and Moderators that are total Mobility Addicts like me! But we are all Windows Mobile Device owners that don’t have a hands on insight into devices like Blackberry’s, iPhones, and Symbian devices. So what we are looking for is some NON Windows Mobile Device owners that have a passion for mobility and would like to share that passion with others. It would also be great to get some female writers on board that would like to share their mobility passion from a woman’s point of view. So now you might be saying to yourself, I would like to participate, what are the qualifications? Well, there aren’t any really. All of us here at Mobility Digest, and the rest of the websites have full time jobs, so writing is just for fun. All you need is a decent knowledge of mobility and a good writing skills. We are flexible about how much or how little you write, but ask that if you apply, that you have looked at your schedule and qualifications in advance and can make the commitment to be on the team. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or use the contact form at the top of the page.

Thanks again for being part of our community and hope we have some writers in the wings that want to share their passion with all of us.

Email me at doug@mobilitydigest.com

Thanks again,

Doug Smith

June 15th, 2009 — 12:57pm Posted by Doug Smith

I never like just coping and pasting press releases. I try to add my personal thoughts on everything I post, but we are getting so many press releases that it is getting very hard with our normal day jobs to keep up with them all. Today I got a press release about handy little GPS Finder by QSTARZ that I think would be a great gift idea for any family member that can never seem to find their car at a busy mall parking lot or just about anything you need to find your way back to. I teased my wife and told her that I could get her this and use one of the marked positions on the vacuum cleaner. The resulting evil glare may be a sure sign that I have killed my chances of anything good on Father’s Day, but I thought it was funny. Anyway, have fun and enjoy!:
