According to market news service TheFlyOnTheWall.com, Ballmer and the Redmond Boys have signed an NDA with troubled Yahoo to taker a deeper dive into their affairs and see if they can make a deal happen. It was back in 2008 when Microsoft made an offer for Yahoo for $33.00 a share or at the time $47.5 billion dollars. Today, the stock value has plunged to $15.27 which is up with the Microsoft news.

YouMail Launches Major iPhone Update Bringing Premium Visual Voicemail to iOS

YouMail Brings Its Popular Visual Voicemail Plus to iPhone

Irvine, CA – February 10, 2011 – YouMail, Inc. (www.youmail.com) today announced a major update to its free iPhone Visual Voicemail Plus application, completely overhauling the app’s user interface, features, capabilities and functionality. This new update offers iPhone users a fast, fun option for instantly managing, sharing, storing, digitizing and transcribing voicemail. With this update, the YouMail application goes far beyond the basic visual voicemail that comes with the iPhone, providing:

· Multi-Platform Access. YouMail users can pick up their voicemail on whatever device is most convenient, not just the iPhone. The YouMail app also runs on iPods and iPads, as well as any other portable computing device or handset. This accessibility allows users to pick up voicemail through youmail.com on any computer, as well as to share voicemail with colleagues, friends and family.

· Visual caller ID. YouMail now pulls and displays incoming caller photos from the phone’s address book and the user’s Facebook account – giving users truly visual voicemail. YouMail also provides the caller’s city and state, in addition to their phone number and name.

· Simple forwarding. With just a couple of clicks, users can now easily forward voicemail to any e-mail address. Users aren’t locked in to forwarding to other people on their carrier’s network.

· Message grouping. YouMail users can now easily manage groups of voicemails, moving them into folders effortlessly, deleting multiple messages at a time, and even restoring or purging deleted voicemails.

· Massive storage. YouMail’s free application allows users to store up to 100 messages, eliminating the constant worry about mailboxes getting too full. YouMail also offers premium options with even greater storage capacity.

· Premium transcription. The app lets users read their voicemail with one of YouMail’s human-edited transcription plans. This update now makes it easy for users to try and buy transcription services from YouMail’s premium offerings

In addition, users of youMails’ iPhone app have access to all of YouMail’s rich features that can be configured and managed from theYouMail web site, including:

· Setting up personal greetings heard only by specific family, friends, or co-workers.

· Playing and use prerecorded greetings supplied by other YouMailers

· Blocking specific people from leaving voicemail.

· Creating your own folders to help organize voicemail

· Connecting to Facebook, so your friend’s pictures show up when they leave messages.

· Easily posting messages to your Facebook wall, twitter, or your blog.

· Saving important voicemails forever, whether on the iPhone or computer.

This new update makes YouMail the iPhone’s most comprehensive and feature-rich visual voicemail service.

"The iPhone has made visual voicemail a must have," commented CEO Alex Quilici. “YouMail now dramatically extends the iPhone’s visual voicemail, turning into a much faster and fun solution for handling missed calls, providing iPhone users access to the same popular YouMail application that has been downloaded over two million times on BlackBerry and Android devices.”

YouMail is available to post-paid mobile users in the US on all major carriers including AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile. YouMail can also be used to unify a user’s mobile voicemail with their voice messages from VOIP service providers such as Google Voice, MagicJack, OOMA, and Vonage.

Google is calling this feature “Priority Inbox” and should start rolling out to all users starting Tuesday. This is only a experimental or beta test by Google. From Reuters:

The motivation behind Priority Inbox is Google’s conviction that the problem of e-mail overload continues getting worse, forcing people to spend much time and effort managing their inbox both for personal and work-related matters.

Priority Inbox is an additional, optional view of inbox messages. People who choose it can toggle back to other more conventional views,

This will be a pretty interesting feature and I think it would be a really helpful feature for those who get a ton of emails. I am not sure how the bots will pick which emails are important but I am sure Google has figured out some kind of algorithm to make sure they get it right and hopefully I can test it for myself tomorrow.

What are your thoughts on this new feature?

Raise your hand if you’ve used Windows Mobile and thought that it’s ridiculous that every time you get an html email with embedded images that you need to press somewhere to get the content. And of course if you’re offline that means no soup for you. Well with the mobile world trotting forward and both Apple and Google automatically downloading (and loading) html with embedded images that should guarantee that Windows Phone 7 will automatically load embedded html emails, right? Yeah…fail. Take a look at that images that Herm (hermssoftware.com) snapped on his dev device. [And by the way clicking the “read about privacy” link gives you "Avoid junk mail by only downloading pictures from senders you trust. This can verify your email to a junk mail sender."]

Just like Windows Mobile. And if you don’t have the whole email downloaded then you have to download the entire email, then click to download the pictures separately. They’ve always said that this was a security feature. It’s a nuisance. On your PC you can set contacts as trusted and then it downloads the content automatically. It doesn’t appear to be implemented on WP7 but quite frankly I’m not sure I care. There should be an option to automatically always download this content. On a mobile device it’s really annoying to sit there and wait for the content to download and load and it’s an aesthetics problem as much as anything else. Here’s a device for the mass population but email looks like garbage because of MS’s security fear that’s not realized on mobile device. In short, stop f#cking it up and fix it!

Ugh….

If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2010 64Bit Version you can expect to have some problems syncing your Windows Mobile Device via Windows Mobile Device Center. What’s the problem? The Problem is that if “you install an unsupported version of Outlook 2010, Outlook contacts, email and calendar items will be removed from the phone during the first sync time.”

The only cure for this is to run a 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 that uses a standard MSI installation.

So you are probably thinking that Microsoft will eventually fix this aren’t you? Mmmm not so much…

“There are no plans to update Windows Mobile Device Center to improve compatibility with Outlook 2010.”

Jump after the break to read the whole rundown on the Outlook 2010 64BIT version issues syncing a Windows Mobile Device to Windows Mobile Device Center or CLICK HERE to check out Microsoft’s Alert.

Thanks to Bob T. for the tip!

From Microsoft:

Error message when you try to sync Windows Mobile Device Center with either Outlook 2010 64-bit version or with a Click-to-Run installation of Outlook 2010: "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging"

SYMPTOMS:

When you try to sync Windows Mobile Device Center with either a 64-bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2010 or with a Click-to-Run installation of Outlook 2010, you may receive the following error message:

Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client

Windows Mobile Device Center syncs correctly with a 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 that uses a standard MSI installation.

MORE INFORMATION:

There are no plans to update Windows Mobile Device Center to improve compatibility with Outlook 2010.
If a sync partnership already exists and you install an unsupported version of Outlook 2010, Outlook contacts, email and calendar items will be removed from the phone during the first sync time.
Mail, contacts, calendar and tasks can still be synced over the air with a Microsoft Exchange server running Exchange Active Sync. Windows Phone can also sync over the air with Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo mail and others. Windows Mobile Device Center can still be used to sync non-Outlook data from the computer to a Windows Phone even if running Outlook 64 bit or Outlook Click-to-Run.
If you want to sync a Windows Phone with Outlook 2010, you can use a 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 that uses a standard MSI installation.

Ugh! After a long weekend of waiting patiently (not so much) by my email waiting for the boys at htc-unlocker.org to hook me, it finally came late Sunday night and I was able to finally unlock my brand spankin’ new T-Mobile HTC HD2! Prior to getting it unlocked, I was not disappointed in my 4.3 inch WVGA, Wifi Media Player either! It was awesome reading emails, watching the Transformers Movies that came on the 16gb Storage Disk, and watching HD YouTube Full Screen! I am excited to use the HD2 and see how I like using this device as a phone. I do not have a case, belt holster is my preference, or a screen protector, but I am on it this morning looking for who I am going to use. So for now, I am sporting it in the supplied Gel Skin and got to say like the no slip back as it keeps it in place on my truck counsel.

So head on over to my boys at htc-unlocker.org and get your unlock code. It will take 1-3 days and cost $30.00. HTC has not updated the SIM Database yet and the codes have to obtained from T-Mobile which takes some time, and the added $10.00 for the normally priced $19.95. I will also say their customer service is pretty good. I got 14 emails exchanged with them as they kept me updated on what was going on. So my hats off to them as I start a brand new week with my HTC HD2 from T-Mobile.

One other thing I almost forgot, you will need to add the AT&T Network Settings which can be added by using this cab from my buddy Doug Simmons who hooked me up with it. Check it out here on blownfuze.org.

Stay tuned for as I blog and Twitter about here on Mobility Digest. While I was bored this weekend I PS’d this photo waiting for this article… Enjoy and have a GREAT WEEK everyone!!

Essentially, you get your emails collapsed by subject so that you can have all of the related emails under one heading. It really cleans up your emails a lot and makes it easier to find things quickly and follow the chain. Well WM has always lacked this but WMExperts has found that build 23517 has the ability to sort by ‘conversation’. You can see the results in the screenshot they provided. You can also see a preview of the text in the conversation which is a great time saver. And what’s nice about this is that it is independent of your Exchange Server (since Exchange 2010 was previously said to be a requirement for threaded messaging).

To see it in action you can jump to WMExperts to see a video showing this off. it’s a good start MS, but keep going. A little more ‘pretty’ wouldn’t kill you:)

Google Sync (push) now open to all WinMo Gmail users. Here’s how:

So Google finally let all us ActiveSyncers into the push club, extending their welcome from Google Apps Premiere users to free Gmail account holders. They call it Google Sync. It’s a little tricky to get working, not nearly as simple as their online guide suggests which left me frustrated with headaches; but Laos101 of XDA cranked out some instructions which worked for me and now I can get emails in under ten seconds. You want to follow that guide verbatim and it entails messing both with your phone and with your Google account so set aside a good half hour to dive into this. Google’s online calendar is definitely worth setting up for this along with Google Contacts. You can export your Outlook contacts and calendar as CSV files and beam them to Google and you can also sync your PC’s Outlook’s calendar with Google’s using Google Calender Sync if you prefer Outlook over their web interface (but nothing for contacts or tasks syncing with Outlook, at least not with free Gmail accounts).

All data flies in and out fully encrypted over an SSL connection. If you run into problems with ActiveSync pushing failing on you, try danielherrero’s Connection State Checker which pings Google periodically and if your data connection drops it will initiate a new one. Note that push email requires a data connection being kept alive which drains the battery more than interval syncing does. However, as you’ll see in the guide, you can tell ActiveSync to chill out and check on intervals after defined business hours. Also note that this is still very beta so don’t expect perfection (EG no attachments yet on email from non-gmail users) — but they’re working on it.

Lastly if you like the sound of text message-speed email but have a non-Gmail address that you don’t want to give up, provided it’s not hosted on a lame provider that won’t let you forward incoming email somewhere else, you could create a Gmail account and then you might be able to get your existing email account to forward to that Gmail account and then set Gmail to let you send email using your old email account in the From address, including from your phone, PC Outlook or Thunderbird or any other IMAP-idle client. That will overlay Exchange behavior onto your own address to take advantage of ActiveSync pushing.

If you’re a self-proclaimed important person like me, then email means the world to you. Being able to have access to my email in its entirety is just as critical as having email itself. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to complete this task on our smartphones, so I’ll lend a helping hand.

So you’ve gone ahead and added your email to your phone. All the hello kitty notifications and Aunt Sally emails you can chew on the go! GREAT! But I’ve noticed something very disturbing throughout the years on many a people’s phones! After they’ve added the email account, they go no further. By default, windows mobile is only set to pull down headers and 3 days’ worth of email. So what’s wrong with that? EVERYTHING!

For starters, only 3 days of email? I can understand why this option is set by default; I find a lot of people let their inbox run wild. So 3 days would be a good way of keeping it to a readable amount. But for a neat freak like me (I am lying through my teeth here,) being able to have all available mail on the server for reference at any time is a blessing.

My second issue is with the headers. Back in 1765 (exaggeration) when windows mobile was introduced, data plans where through the roof. So I could understand the thought process of making something like pulling headers default. But here in 2009, data plans are still through the roof, but you can’t own the phone without owning data. So let’s do away with the madness. Where headers really become annoying is the way you view an email. After the email has been downloading, when you go to read it you’ll be prompted by the most annoying message to date. “Click here to download more.” So you’d have to check off the pretty little green arrow, then send and receive a second time. This is a complete waste of time.

So what can we do to get around this? Head on over to MENU, then TOOLS and select OPTIONS.

From here, you’ll need to select the email account you want to modify. In my case, I’d be clicking on “Gmail.” You’ll be confronted with a contents menu showing you three options.

We’re only interested in two of the three options. “send/receive schedule” and “download size settings” is where we will make our changes. So let’s start with “send/receive schedule.”

After you’ve clicked on send/receive schedule, you’ll see an option for “download messages.” Select the drop down and change the option to “all messages.” Hit the done button on the lower left corner and this will bring you back to the contents menu. Next, click on “download size settings” and let’s dig in.

You’ll need to make two changes. First, change the message download limit to “entire message.” This ensures that you never ever have to send and receive to get an email that was downloaded to your phone once before. Second, change download attachments to “all attachments.” Be careful with this one. If I receive attachments, they’re usually pictures, short videos or ringtones. So we’re talking about no larger than 5mb attachments. This is fine for a 3G connection. If you’re a person who receives larger attachments than that, this impacts you a bit. When you’re finished, hit the done button and return to the contents menu. Hit done one more time, and return to the options menu. From here we’ll make the last really important change. Select the “storage” tab on the bottom right.

You’ll need to check the option “when available, use this storage card to store attachment.” This option makes sure all attachments you receive in email are stored on the storage card and not on the phone itself. You can hit the ok button to return back to your mail.

Send and receive your mail to try out your new settings, you should notice you have full copies of the emails including attachments.

So why is this setup important to me? Well, here in NYC I do a great deal of my week day commuting underground where there is no cell phone service. Because I am underground doesn’t mean I should not have access to all my email. This setup allows me to review all my mail and even take a quick look at a picture I’ve received earlier in the day while riding the subway. Hopefully this will serve you the same way!

For those of us who receive a ton of email every day, Gmail’s labels are a savior. If it wasn’t for this wonderful technology, my inbox would be one large unmanageable mess! Once you’ve adapted the ideology of using labels, you’ll find managing your email to be less of a chore and more of a management tool.

After you’ve created your labels and setup filters to have yourmail populated accordingly, it will look something like this.

You’ll notice I created my labels and filters based on the most important categories to me. The idea behind this is to have all things related to any particular subject grouped in one place where I can search through them as I please. The second really important part is to have them removed from the main inbox. This really helps to get rid of the clog, and I can focus on the one off emails that I receive.

So how does this carry over to our devices? Well, effortlessly! After you’ve added your Gmail account to the phone, you’ll need to go to MENU then TOOLS, and you’ll have two important options. The first option is “manage folders,” and the second is “update folders.”

Let’s start with “manage folders.” When you select this option you’ll be taken to the screen where you can select the available labels/folders that you’ve created earlier.

From here, it’s as simple as checking off the labels you would like to make available on your device. Once you’ve completed that, hit “ok” and you’ll be back to your inbox. Now you can have a look see at your new and improved inbox by tapping the “inbox” icon at the top right in pocket outlook. You’ll see a drop down menu appear, showing your beautiful labels and all their glory!

But before you go off to label bliss, there is one more thing. Remember the “update folders” option? Any labels you create after you’ve done this process will not show automatically, so you’ll need to select “update folders” in order to see them in the selection list.

What if you do not use Gmail? No worries, Hotmail and yahoo support these features as well. It’s just part of what makes IMAP so wonderful. So take a few minutes to organize your email and let windows mobile take it from there!
