			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/microsoft-apple-and-google-where-does-the-money-come-from/4469" target="_blank">Ed Bott from ZDNet</a> put together pie charts that show where each Microsoft, Apple and Google make their money based on their latest filings. This is amazing stuff:</p>
<p>Microsoft:</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image6.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image_thumb7.png" width="530" height="249" /></a></p>
<p>Apple:</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image7.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image_thumb8.png" width="531" height="230" /></a></p>
<p>Google:</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image8.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="image" border="0" alt="image" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image_thumb9.png" width="533" height="273" /></a></p>
<p>So Microsoft actually has a somewhat balance offering with business, server, Windows and Entertainment each taking large chunks of the company. Apple is iPhone and iPad at their heart – not bad considering how crazy their sales have been. And then there’s Google – 96% of their revenue comes from ads. </p>
<p>Cue the Gmail Man:</p>
<p>
<div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:51194f6a-201d-4dee-92c7-08af00314c5f" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent">
<div id="637aedd1-46b8-49e7-be45-3513a64b111e" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;">
<div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDbrX5U75dk" target="_new"><img src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/video298fb91299ac.jpg" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('637aedd1-46b8-49e7-be45-3513a64b111e'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = &quot;&lt;div&gt;&lt;object width=\&quot;640\&quot; height=\&quot;360\&quot;&gt;&lt;param name=\&quot;movie\&quot; value=\&quot;http://www.youtube.com/v/TDbrX5U75dk?hl=en&amp;hd=1\&quot;&gt;&lt;\/param&gt;&lt;embed src=\&quot;http://www.youtube.com/v/TDbrX5U75dk?hl=en&amp;hd=1\&quot; type=\&quot;application/x-shockwave-flash\&quot; width=\&quot;640\&quot; height=\&quot;360\&quot;&gt;&lt;\/embed&gt;&lt;\/object&gt;&lt;\/div&gt;&quot;;" alt=""/></a></div>
</div>
</div>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>But really this does go to the heart of how these companies operate. Microsoft tries to be everywhere at once and may finally in 2012 have a core experience across them all (to be seen). Apple has had a ton of success selling two products but they sell the crap out of them and that’s now allowing them to get into more and more markets. And then there’s Google who wants your info and is giving away all of their services to get to your valuable data. Buyer beware&#8230;especially when the sales price is $0.</p>

If you didn’t, let me tell you that these are the best <a href="http://android.mobilitydigest.com/" target="_blank">Android</a> has to offer right now and proudly call their flagship devices. And if you are in the market for one of these devices then you better jump at this deal <a href="http://www.wirefly.com/product/verizon_wireless/samsung/galaxy-nexus-black" target="_blank">Wirefly</a> is going to drop at 3am ET this morning! Regularly $299.99 with two year contract, both devices will be on sale for $99.99! I have been very critical of Verizon charging a $100 dollar premium for their 4G LTE service which is now in 200 markets in the US, but now you can get these devices at a 1/3 of the cost! This is for new customers only and existing customers will get the deal for $199.99 or $100.00 off the regular price for a two year contract. </p>
<p>Both the NEXUS and 32MB DROID RAZR are good in stock and will ship without backorders so no need to drop you money on a device then wait. Here are the links so just click on the name and head on over to the Wirefly product page <strong><u>where the prices will update at 3am ET</u></strong>:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1532.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1532" border="0" alt="IMG_1532" align="right" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1532_thumb.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a>In January 2010, Google introduced the Nexus One, or what they would call the “Pure <a href="http://android.mobilitydigest.com/" target="_blank">Android</a> Experience”. The idea was to give Android owners a device that was 100% controlled by Google and as a result, would not have any bloat, or carrier modifications made to it. This “Pure Android Experience” would be Google’s Flagship device and always have available to it the most current version of the Google operating system at the time. No waiting for Carriers to approve the updates and push them out at their leisure, this device would have almost real time updating. To further appeal to developers, the Nexus One would come with an unlockable bootloader and encourage end user development.&#160; The Nexus One, manufactured by HTC, would be the first of these flagship devices.</p>
<p>Released with Android 2.1 Éclair, the Nexus One would receive version 2.2 Froyo and version 2.3 Gingerbread updates. The Nexus One would not receive the most current Android Operating System, Ice Cream Sandwich or version 4.0. Later that year in December 2010, Google would follow up the Nexus One with the Nexus S. The Nexus S would not be made by HTC as was the original Nexus One, but manufactured by Samsung and bare the very popular “S” branding that was also on the Samsung Flagship device called the Galaxy S. Several version of the Galaxy S would become available from multiple US Carriers, but the Google Nexus S would be released with then new operating system called Gingerbread version 2.3. Google would stay true to their word about updating these devices and exactly one year later, Google would update the Nexus S with ICS, Version 4.0. </p>
<p>Google would complete the Nexus Trilogy in November 2011 by once again tapping Samsung to create the third version of their flagship device that would would be again named after a current Samsung device, this time calling it the Galaxy Nexus. Released and ushering in the latest and greatest operating systems from Google called Ice Cream Sandwich, this version 4.0 plus some very high end specs would complete Google’s desire to create a true Flagship Device worthy of the Nexus name. </p>
<p>So now that I have brought everyone up to speed on the Google Nexus lineage of smartphone devices, there is only one thing left to do and this is bust out another Mobility Digest Review on Google’s Galaxy Nexus by Samsung!</p>
<p><iframe height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-F_ke3rxopc" frameborder="0" width="640" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></p>
<p><strong>The Unboxing</strong></p>
<p>The packaging is plain white as you can see with nothing in print anywhere on it. The inner carton is all red and the device is the first thing you see after removing the top cover. Under the device tray is all the booklets, sync cable, ac adapter, and earbuds Verizon is including with the Nexus.</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1208.jpg"><img title="IMG_1208" border="0" alt="IMG_1208" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1208_thumb.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1209.jpg"><img title="IMG_1209" border="0" alt="IMG_1209" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1209_thumb.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1210.jpg"><img title="IMG_1210" border="0" alt="IMG_1210" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1210_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1211.jpg"><img title="IMG_1211" border="0" alt="IMG_1211" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1211_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a></p>
<p>The Samsung Galaxy Nexus feels very solid. In fact, it is the best feeling Samsung device out right now. Even though the back panel is very flimsy, the rest of the device is very well made and solid. The bottom of the Galaxy Nexus has a centered micro USB port and the 3.5mm audio jack. Also located on the bottom is a small mic the is in between the audio jack and micro USB port.</p>
<p>On the right hand side of the GN at the top is the power button and towards the bottom is 3 prongs to be used with accessories like a docking station. The top of the GN has nothing on it and seems strange to be bare when most all other devices have something of worth up there. The left hand side of the GN is where you will find the volume rocker.</p>
<p>On the back side of Sammy’s Galaxy Nexus is the camera and LED Flash. At the bottom of the back side is your speaker.</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1212.jpg"><img title="IMG_1212" border="0" alt="IMG_1212" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1212_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1213.jpg"><img title="IMG_1213" border="0" alt="IMG_1213" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1213_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1214.jpg"><img title="IMG_1214" border="0" alt="IMG_1214" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1214_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1215.jpg"><img title="IMG_1215" border="0" alt="IMG_1215" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/IMG_1215_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a></p>
<p>The back cover as I mentioned above is very flimsy and removing it will make you want to cringe each time you do it. The tabs that hold down the back cover are incredibly small. Under the back cover is a 1850 mAh battery that should keep ICS chugging along.</p>

<p>The Galaxy Nexus measures out at 5.33” x 2.67” x .37”&#160; and weighs 5.1 oz. The contoured glass adds a little bit of girth to the bottom side of the Galaxy Nexus, but it feels good in your hand and solid the whole time.</p>
<p><strong>The Hardware</strong></p>
<p>The Galaxy Nexus is powered by a 4th generation Texas Instruments OMAP (Open Multimedia Application Platform) 4460 dual core 1.2 GHz processor. Now wait a minute here, why would Sammy not use their own Exynos processor? As I mentioned earlier, this is a pure Google Android experience and as such, Google’s development team controls every component that goes into this device. As it turns out, the developers at Google picked the OMAP 4460 because of&#160; it’s hardware accelerator called IVA 3. Because of the big and beautiful 4.65 HD screen that the Galaxy Nexus has, the OMAP was determined to have better encoding and decoding&#160; of HD video which was obviously very important to Google and to make the device perform at it ‘s best. With all that said, I found that most of the time the processor did a very good job and seemed to work well with ICS 4.0. But the kiss of death if you are a hardware manufacture is a boot screen animation that is vibrantly colorful&#160; as it is animated. On the very first boot animation the screen locked up several times and was buggy several times after that. I never understood the point of these wild boot screen animations but if you are going to use them, it is always best to&#160; make sure they flow smoothly every time. Over all, the 1.2GHz dual core processor was pretty good and definitely better than earlier versions of the Nexus. There are still some bugs and gremlins in the OS but the majority of the time this device was quick and responsive. </p>
<p>There is plenty of memory on the Galaxy Nexus with it’s 32 GB of on board storage. No microSD card slot on the Galaxy&#160; so 32gb is all you get. RAM on the Galaxy Nexus is 1gb. The battery is a 1850mAh which claims up to 12 hours normal usage and standby time up to 150 hours. I got a lot better battery life out of the Galaxy Nexus then I have with any Gingerbread device and in the week I used it I got between 8-10 hours of moderate usage. Power users will definitely need to make sure they have a plan b for power after 6-8 hours. </p>
<p>The screen on the Galaxy Nexus is pretty darn spiffy. Packing a 4.65 inch Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 HD screen in this device makes watching videos and movies through streaming source like Netflix, amazing. I normally watched Lord of the Rings on my test devices because of the scenery and richness of color, and I pretty much love watching the movie, but noticed that Netflix no longer has it! (Must be on Starz which they lost) Anyway, I found several other movies like Ironman that I watched and the as I said, it is a great experience! The last thing to mention about the screen is it’s very cool and unique contoured display. It’s definitely pretty cool and makes for a slightly curved feel to your face when on a phone call. </p>
<p>Even though NFC is the way of the future, should you find a place to use, you can rest assured that you are covered with your Galaxy Nexus which includes this radio in the device. Wifi and Bluetooth (3.0) both performed well and nothing out of the ordinary. </p>
<p>It is the speed of Verizon’s 4G LTE network that was the biggest surprise! I knew the capabilities of the 4G LTE service but since I live in a very rural area (it is actually closer to the middle of nowhere) I do not get any type of 4G service. Speeds on the Verizon network reached 25 mbps download and 13 mbps upload. It is amazing to see a smartphone stream that fast. The Galaxy Nexus on the Verizon 4G LTE service has some serious horsepower and the download speed is sick. Watching steaming services like Netflix and Pandora are amazing. <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mobility-Digest/68855933936">Facebook</a>, YouTube, and just plain surfing the net is an absolute joy! I have been critical of Verizon’s $100.00 premium that put on new 4G LTE devices which are $299.99 with two year purchase, but if you live in, or frequent a 4G LTE area I am would seriously consider the the extra money and almost justify it! I do think that Verizon will have only a short time left to enjoy the extra $100.00 premium for their 4G LTE devices because AT&amp;T has started selling their 4G LTE devices and have maintained the $199.99 price point for them with of course the two year contract. To sum up the Galaxy Nexus running on the 4G LTE network is easy, it is simply blazing fast and where the 4G LTE markets are available.</p>

<p>&#160;</p>
<p>The Camera on the Galaxy Nexus has all new software, but for some reason they choose to go to the 5mp rear facing camera. It has w/AF and LED flash. Even though the Zoom on the Galaxy Nexus was pretty impressive in terms of actual closeness, the blurriness of the photo was pretty apparent and did not measure up against the likes of the <a href="http://iphone.mobilitydigest.com/" target="_blank">iPhone</a> 4S which is still in my opinion, the benchmark that everyone else is shooting for. </p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_20120126_125404.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_20120126_125404" border="0" alt="IMG_20120126_125404" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_20120126_125404_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_20120126_125442.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_20120126_125442" border="0" alt="IMG_20120126_125442" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_20120126_125442_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a></p>
<p>As I said, the camera’s software has been revamped and I think it is much cleaner user interface:</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1527.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1527" border="0" alt="IMG_1527" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1527_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1528.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1528" border="0" alt="IMG_1528" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1528_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1529.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1529" border="0" alt="IMG_1529" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1529_thumb.jpg" width="154" height="116" /></a></p>

<p>The 1.3 mp&#160; front facing camera does a good job when trying to conference and has the same specs as it’s arch rival from Motorola, the DROID RAZR with 720 HD front facing video. Video capture was really good with the Galaxy Nexus and it features 1080p HD video capture (rear camera) in the following formats H.263, H.264, MPEG4, VC–1. In Video capture, the Galaxy Nexus offers you some options to make taking videos fun. It has a wide array of “Live Affects” that can be accessed to distort the subject matter, say like your best friend and make their face twist at all kinds of hilarious angles. The Galaxy Nexus also has a single motion panoramic mode that when in use, allows you to swipe the bar at the bottom to capture the width of the picture desired. </p>
<p><strong>The Software</strong></p>
<p>Google wanted to continue to make the Galaxy Nexus a first and launched this device with Android Version 4.0, or as it is more commonly known as Ice Cream Sandwich. This was the long awaited follow up to Gingerbread version 2.3. You might have noticed that no where have we mentioned a version 3.0 huh? Well that is because Google launched Honeycomb, Android Version 3.0 for their tablets after Froyo did not pay off for them as they had hoped. Ice Cream Sandwich is clean, and from the get go, you notice that this operating system is much smoother over Gingerbread. The today screen is clean, and that is due to this device being a “Pure Android Experience”&#160; and not weighed down by Carrier Bloat as we like to call it. Verizon, even though I do like some of their software, has only two apps loaded on the Galaxy Nexus, “My Verizon Mobile” and “VZ Backup Assistant”.&#160; </p>
<p>At the top of the today screen is a small Google Search Box that we all have become accustomed too as well as a Voice Command icon in the right corner. Even though&#160; since the early days of <a href="http://windowsmobile.mobilitydigest.com/" target="_blank">Windows Mobile</a>, anything animated on a smartphone is generally thought to consume power and be wasteful. Even still, Androids Live Wallpapers are cool and I quickly changed to the Nexus Wallpaper that is now famous. Across the bottom of the screen are 5 buttons that you will most commonly use. The Phone, Contacts, Apps, Messaging, and Browser. Below that is the back button, home, and recent apps buttons. I really liked the multitasking recent apps button, accidentally closing down an app can be reopened quickly. </p>
<p>The operating system is much smoother and there has been a lot of enhancements made by Google to what seems like every app. Even notifications have been revamped, separating it further from the version the iPhone adopted from Android. </p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1531.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1531" border="0" alt="IMG_1531" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1531_thumb.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_15321.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1532" border="0" alt="IMG_1532" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1532_thumb1.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1533.jpg" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_1533" border="0" alt="IMG_1533" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/IMG_1533_thumb.jpg" width="116" height="154" /></a></p>

<p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p>
<p>The Google Galaxy Nexus by Samsung is worthy replacement for the Nexus S and illustrates what I feel is Google’s commitment to progressing their mobile platform. The operating system continues to get better and better as it seems Google is making better strides to optimize the OS to the ever changing hardware. I think in the very near future, specs will have to become a non selling point for Google and they concentrate more on the UX instead of always being the biggest and baddest spec’d out device on the market. Take for example <a href="http://windowsphone.mobilitydigest.com/" target="_blank">Windows Phone</a>, they can achieve a rich and very smooth UX with a lot less hardware. I think this needs to be Google’s main focus going forward and work hard to make sure their OS is optimized for the bajillions of Android Devices on the market. With all that said, Google has made a stellar device in the Galaxy Nexus and the new operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, is a very positive step in the right direction for them. The Android base will love this device. Unlockable and full of third party development plus the first in line to receive any updates from Google. Hardware, the Galaxy Nexus will provide excellent power and performance. When compared to other device like the Motorola DROID RAZR, who will also receive the ICS update very soon, what sets the Galaxy Nexus apart is the amazing curved screen. Even though the RAZR has the qHD screen, the Galaxy Nexus is simply better. More vibrant, crisp, and a media view pleasure. The Galaxy Nexus by Samsung has done Google proud once again. </p>
<p>PROS</p>

Turns out that a change in the way you sign up for Google accounts now requires you to join Google+ when you get your shiny new Gmail account and there’s no opt-out. If you want a Google account you’re getting a Google+ account. That’s one way to increase the number of members you have. It’s also a fast track to a Congressional hearing…</p>

<blockquote><p>In Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, we&#8217;ve added several new icons to make using your Android device faster and easier. If you ever wonder what an icon means, you can long-press the icon and the name of it will appear. For instance, when viewing a message in the Gmail app, long-press on the sealed envelope. The icon will appear against a blue background and the description &#8216;Mark unread&#8217; will show on the screen. You can use this trick in other Google apps, such as Calendar, Talk, and Maps in Android 4.0.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>That helps.</p>

<p>We at times poke fun at Google for dominating the search market and their seemingly endless desire to saturate any and all markets, gain as much data on the consumer and get businesses to pay handsomely for the right to exploit the data. This story is about something not just advantageous to Google but downright the opposite of Do No Evil.</p>
<p>Below is an excerpt of how Google went after Mocality’s customers with lies and deceit. It just wasn’t the cost of doing business but a glimpse into how Google conducts its business and keeps growing at an exponential place. Mocality decided to conduct a sting operation after discovering a trend of their customers’ contact data being viewed. Mocality had changed the code in their search to redirect search results 10% of the time to a number which would be rerouted to their call center if accessed by the offending IP address. Here is an example of what happened.</p>
<p>“I’d like you to meet Douglas. On <a href="https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/mocality-wordpress/audio/douglas.mp3">this call</a> (first 2 minutes) you can clearly hear Douglas identify himself as Google Kenya employee, state, and then reaffirm, that GKBO is working in collaboration with Mocality, and that we are helping them with GKBO, before trying to offer the business owner a website (and upsell them a domain name). Over the 11 minutes of the whole call he repeatedly states that Mocality is with, or under (!) Google.</p>
<p>Between 10am and 1pm on December 21st, we received 6 others just like it (from 5 different Google Kenya employees) before switching back to normal service. We estimate that this team were calling 20-25 Mocality business per hour, since 7 calls over 3 hours, only 10% of calls redirected: 7*10/3= 23.3. calls/hour)</p>
<p>On all calls, the same script is followed – A Google Kenya employee calls a Mocality business and tries to deceive them into signing up for their competing product, by claiming that we are working together.”</p>
<p>Are you shocked and disgusted yet? If not there is a lot more to the story and shows just how tenacious and deceitful Google tried to go after one of their better customer’s business lifeblood.</p>
<p>Do no evil? Hardly.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This just popped into my inbox and I thought I’d be helpful and post it up here in case you didn’t know about it or maybe forgot. It’s the last day for you to get albums for $4.99 or single tracks for 49 cents from the Google Music store. I never shopped in the Google music store myself, I get my stuff from the Zune marketplace usually but I may have to pop on over later today and see what’s there, maybe I can find some older stuff I’ve been looking for.</p>

<p>&#160;</p>
<blockquote><p>MILLIONS OF MP3S ON SALE</p>
<p>We&#8217;re proud to offer you over half a million albums for $4.99 and over ten million tracks for 49¢. Search around the site for your favorites—we promise you’ll find something you like at a great price! Few things in life are more important than music, and, since we launched the music store in the Android Market a few weeks ago, we&#8217;ve sought to connect you with the tunes you love. </p>
<p>* Promotion excludes single albums with original retail price above $15, double-albums, and tracks with original retail price above $1.29. Google Music artist hub and Sony albums and tracks are also not included.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/charlieswar.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: right; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="charlieswar" border="0" alt="charlieswar" align="right" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/charlieswar_thumb.jpg" width="244" height="244" /></a>Charlie Kindel, former Windows Phone General Manager, set off a firestorm when he spoke his mind about the state of Windows Phone adoption rate.&#160; I even contributed a response on the thread that took on a life of its own with various tech bloggers stepping up to match wits.&#160; I happen to agree far more with Charlie than I do any other yahoo who tried to find alternate reasoning for Windows Phone lack of market penetration.</p>
<ul>
<li>Microsoft has wedged itself smack in the middle of carriers and OEMs.&#160; They have set a minimum spec sheet, standard components in a lot of ways and made a guarantee that all devices would receive OS updates.&#160; This works in high contrast to the way Google deploys Android.&#160; The OEMs are free to license the OS and do what they may, user experience be darned.&#160; The OEMs spend millions of dollars on R&amp;D and are much more inclined to get whatever incremental increase in hardware out into the market as fast as they can.&#160; There is no sense of timing involved.&#160; Apple, as we all know, takes the opposite approach.&#160; A methodical, measured approach to product design and release.&#160; They do it without regard to anyone else’s schedule, not the carriers or any other competing devices.&#160; This allows Apple the opportunity to refine the user experience that their loyal following has come to appreciate and expect. The iCrowd is not looking for the next big thing, they are looking for the next best thing-from Apple.&#160; What Windows Phone has done is try to look out for their own reputation.&#160; Microsoft got blasted in the past for the user experience of Windows Mobile devices.&#160; It didn’t matter if HTC Sense or TouchWiz or whatever processor hogging skin was causing the issues.</li>
<li>Way too late! MG Siegler is so long its unbelievable.&#160; Not only is Windows Phone not too late, it is actually reentering at a good time.&#160; You see, both Apple and Android are raising the awareness and adoption of smartphones.&#160; This gives Microsoft the opportunity to be in the market during the time of rapid and steady market expansion.&#160; There is no such thing as being too late to an expanding market. That defies basic logic. Was Google too late in launching Google+? How about Amazon launching the Kindle Fire in the tablet market? Personal opinion does not equate to truth.</li>
<li>Charlie Kindel wrote <strong><em>“I would like to believe that at the end of the day the superior end to end experience for the end user matters more than anything.”</em></strong>&#160; I happen to agree wholeheartedly.&#160; When you take away all the flash and power tools the user experience is what you have left.&#160; iPhone users love their devices, they love the way they operate, the way they feel and the fact they feel attached to it.&#160; Most Android users I know, operate their fun, they don’t love it.&#160; Windows Phone users have the same type of admiration and love for the WP OS that iOS users have for theirs.&#160; What keeps people with Apple, in large part, is the ecosystem-the platform. If someone disagrees that the user experience should be the most important thing they don’t have a clue.&#160; Even if you are a “power user” at the end of the day you want to enjoy using your phone.</li>
<li>Robert Scoble wrote in the comment section on Charlie’s article<strong><em> “Charlie: it&#8217;s totally wrong to ignore apps. We had two separate parties here this Christmas weekend and all we did was talk about apps. See, this is why Windows Phone 7 won&#8217;t get any traction: when apps come up it&#8217;s Android vs. iOS time. WP7 never even came up in conversations.” </em></strong>Scoble’s logic is wrong.&#160; People are talking about iPhone vs Android apps because that is what people are using, not because the apps aren’t on Windows Phones.&#160; Case in point, AlphaJax scrabble-like game is on Windows Phone 7 and is quite nice plus Windows Phone has Words by Post and other cross platform scrabble games yet the lack of Words with Friends gets cited as one of the big voids in the app marketplace.&#160; WP users are using these other games to much delight yet it comes down to “what your friends are already playing.”&#160; The more WP that get into the marketplace the lack of an app title means less and less as long as there is a suitable alternative.&#160; People care about what is fun a lot more than the actual name of an app.</li>
<li>Marketing matters! Apple is universally applauded for the power of their marketing.&#160; They take very simple things and make them seem-magical- because they tell the story and the spend the money to mass advertise. Microsoft still doesn’t get marketing for consumer products outside of the Xbox. Has anyone seen the correlation between Nokia’s advertisement and the interest in the Nokia 800 compared to other excellent 2nd Gen Windows Phones? Microsoft should not only be prepared to up the ante on marketing but to absolutely flood the market with advertisement.&#160; Every major celebrity should be rocking a windows phone, every major sports program should be taken over for Windows Phone marketing and last but not least every carrier store should include large Windows Phone frontage.&#160; Go Big or Go Home! Which leads me to my final point.</li>
<li>Go home Microsoft! Are you too good for your home? Where are all the store openings that were supposed to be happening over the past 9 months and into the next year that you showed the graph of. Accomplish this single thing and you’ll have a one-to-one connection with customers.&#160; Hire RSPs that specialize in Mobile sales in all stores and push the product hard.&#160; Apple has shown this to be an invaluable tool and you are the only other company that can follow the breadcrumbs to gold.&#160; Do it and do it now if you’re not going to Go Big with the carriers.&#160; In fact it should really be both.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MicrosoftStores01.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="MicrosoftStores01" border="0" alt="MicrosoftStores01" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MicrosoftStores01_thumb.png" width="267" height="152" /></a><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MicrosoftStores02.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="MicrosoftStores02" border="0" alt="MicrosoftStores02" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MicrosoftStores02_thumb.jpg" width="269" height="152" /></a></li>
</ul>
<p>At the end of the day Charlie has great insight because he’s been involved on the other side of the tracks and also has his personal user experience to draw from. I’d highly suggest people shut up and pay attention, unless you don’t want to learn anything then by all means keep spouting nonsense.</p>

<p>I think you need some sort of personality disorder to fully appreciate them, but they do have some nerd value so let’s take them for a spin. To spare you my signature longwindedness I’ll use pictures this time:</p>
<p align="center">Signal bars are for sissies:</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/2.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="2" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/2_thumb.jpg" alt="2" width="644" height="857" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Seems Google pulled it from the market and made it super difficult to find, unless you’re really clever:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="3" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/3_thumb.jpg" alt="3" width="644" height="956" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="left">The thing above the apk download is <a title="Save Your Ass and Maybe Land More Work with httpmon" href="http://mobilitydigest.com/save-your-ass-and-maybe-land-more-work-with-httpmon/">httpmon</a> which, though less sexy, is actually useful. Note that Android had this sophisticated technology before I was even born:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/4.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="4" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/4_thumb.jpg" alt="4" width="644" height="580" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">I find the name offensive.</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/5.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="5" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/5_thumb.jpg" alt="5" width="644" height="767" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Here we go! Random URLs and numbers baby!</p>
<p><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/6.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="6" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/6_thumb.jpg" alt="6" width="644" height="687" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Starbucks patron flirting with me. “Why don’t you spoof <em>my</em> hotspot?” she said. Totally cheesy line, lady:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cute-chick.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="cute-chick" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cute-chick_thumb.jpg" alt="cute-chick" width="644" height="964" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Now we’re getting somewhere. Better blur these guys out a bit. Respect the privacy:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/7.png"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="7" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/7_thumb.png" alt="7" width="644" height="388" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Step this up a notch?</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/8.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="8" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/8_thumb.jpg" alt="8" width="644" height="775" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="left">I wonder what &#8220;Open site” will do? Probably something underwhelming, so let’s leave it a mystery with me only pretending to tap it:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/9.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="9" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/9_thumb.jpg" alt="9" width="644" height="857" border="0" /></a></p>
<p align="center">Perhaps I can sniff faster if I DOS everybody?</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/10.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="10" src="http://mobilitydigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/10_thumb.jpg" alt="10" width="644" height="783" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>Nah, too uncool, won’t do that. But I tested it at home and I can tell you that it does work.</p>
<p>To try to hedge the negative contribution to society I may be making by posting this I’ll offer an honorable mention to <a title="[APP][2.1+] Wifi Protector v1.1.4 Wireless Security | Anti WifiKill | Anti DroidSheep" href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350941">Wifi Protector</a> by Gurkedev from XDA, something that defends you from these hacking apps. Anyway, wild stuff, right? Ehh, scrolling through these pictures, maybe not so wild actually (sorry). One part of me is saying I should probably run this by the MobilityDigest legal team first but another part is noting that there&#8217;s no such thing.<img src="http://mobility.batteryboss.org/blankstarbucksmischief.gif" alt="" border="0" hspace="0" /></p>
