But I never installed them on my Fuze actually (I did try them on other phones though) so may as well give them away. Anyway, I have one full body shield and one that’s just the screen to giveaway. Oh and don’t ask why I bought a second one when I never used the first one…I wouldn’t be able to answer that aside from saying that it was on sale so I kept buying. Not sure how many of you are still using Fuzes but if you do (and it’s not too late) may as well protect the sucker for free.

Getting to the details, the full body is listed as HTC Touch Pro GSM (Full Body) and here’s the link to Zagg’s site which they still list for $25. The screen shield is listed as HTC Fuze Screen and here’s the link to Zagg’s site which they list for $15. The screen is just that – a single small sheet that just covers the top portion of the phone. The full body comes with the spray bottle if you want it (it’s just water) but I lost the install squeegee (you can just use a credit card).

Anyway, let my loss be your gain. All you need to do to enter is add a comment to this post. I’ll pick two winners - first gets the full body and the second gets the screen. Only limitation is that I’m only going to ship it within the US…it’s free man:) If you enter more than once only the first entry counts…but you still get a pity vote in my heart for wanting to protect your aging phone. And we’ll run this for a week ending September 2nd at 5pm EST. Now…let’s see if we have two people using Fuzes still

Wohoo! Free stuff! I'm still using my Fuze after a year and a half (in my RSS reader this site is still called "Fuze Mobility") and still have the original screen protector that came with it on there! a new one (and more) would be sweet.

Make that three! FuzeMobility was the place I turned to every time I forgot my screen resolution (was that VGA or WVGA?) or the path to xda-developer before both were engrained in my brain. The Fuze is still my first and only smartphone. $300 is too much to throw away after just two years!
Keep up the great work here!

 make that 3 haha!

i actually tried the zagg screen protector about a year ago and i found it to be a little too tacky, and i don't mean like a pink flamingo on the front lawn. it was almost too sticky to slide your finger smoothly. besides that though it was a great product - very rugged.

Having an extra battery handy for our power hungry devices (sorry iPhone fanboys) is always a welcome option. But not having a simple way to charge it creates a real hassle. Charging one battery in your phone and then switching out and charging the second is no fun, especially because you need to remain tethered for hours and hours. And the charged spare battery loses juice while it sits around waiting to be used. Stand alone chargers are OK but as soon as you replace your device, your investment becomes obsolete. Wish there was a charger that would work with my current device battery as well as future batteries. Well, my wish has been granted.

The Seidio Multi-Function Battery Charger changes everything. Instead of a dedicated charger for a specific battery, this "why didn’t I think if that" device is comprised of two components; a base and a battery charging plate which is designed for each specific size/shape battery (pretty much everything is 5V today). Currently plates are available for; TouchPro2/Tilt2, Droid Incredible/Evo, Droid2, Eris/Hero, Nexus One, Touch Diamond, TouchPro/Fuze, Tilt, etc. More plates are added as new devices hit the market. Simply pop out one plate and pop in the other and you are ready to start charging. This feature alone would make the charger worth its $29.95 price tag (for base and one plate or $12.95 for a plate alone) but there is more, plenty more.

The Multi-Function Charger lives up to its name as you can use the flip-out, two prong AC plug or connect (with an optional standard USB cable) to any USB port. There is a switch on the side of the charger that allows you change power sources. Additionally, you can plug the charger into an AC outlet (I presume with/without a spare battery) and use the supplied USB to Mini USB (or micro USB) cable to charge both your spare battery and device at the same time. Ingenious. That means this spare battery charger can serve double-duty as an all inclusive travel charger. BTW, the charger handled both my standard and extended capacity battery without issue, as I am sure it would with any extended battery as they all have the same footprint/pin configuration (per device design).

There is a single LED on the front of the unit that turns RED when you insert a discharged/partially discharged battery and changes to GREEN when fully charged. I would not consider this a quick charger, as it might have taken a bit longer to charge my spare battery. But that can be explained with the specs: Input 100-240V, 0.2A – Output: to USB Port: 5V, 1A Max (same as a standard device charger) – Output: to Battery Port: 4.2V, 500mA Max (for a slower trickle charge). Input to USB Port: 5V, 500mA (when charging spare battery via USB). The charger measures: 3.875 x 2.50 x 1.06 and weighs in at about 3.0 oz. (base & plate).

Glad to have found an accessory that won’t become obsolete (like the spare batteries) as soon as I grow tired of my current device. Definitely a keeper. You can find the Multi-Function Charger along with spare/alternate charging plates at Seidio’s site, http://www.seidioonline.com/ or at other online retailers.

Let’s face it, everyone is always looking for a good deal. If you are a Windows Mobile device owner, then you are most likely making it your mission in life to find the absolute best freeware possible to replace the very nice, but high priced third party developed software needed to enhance our device. Perfect case in point is Soti’s Pocket Controller software. It is just simply the best, no questions asked. But for the seasoned Windows Mobile Expert that knows how to use Google search and cruise the XDA-Developers forums, then arguably the best freeware solution to Soti is MyMobiler. The software is a little slower, not as feature rich, and never included a cool device skin for capturing screen shots and using the hardware buttons. But now thanks to XDA-Developers you can now skin some of the more popular HTC Devices like the HTC HD2, HTC TP2, HTC Diamond and Touch Pro. Check out some screen shots below:

Doing some digging it looked like there was some other skins available too so if your favorite device was not mentioned, do some digging and odds are good you may come up with a skin for your device. As a side note, you will want to READ the whole thread to each of the links posted.
There has been a lot of buzz about the Google Android Devices, and I must say they all look really cool. And like all things cool, we must have them on our device no matter if it is an AT&T Fuze or HTC Touch Pro! It has got to be ported. I know you are thinking that Google Android has already been ported, what is the guy talking about? It has, but now it has been ported better than ever. Our good Friend and Fuze/Touch Pro Expert over at BlownFuze.org Doug Simmons dropped me this email today and I thought I would post his excellent article as it was. Check it out:

Running Google’s Android on the Tilt/Kaiser has been possible for some time however the hardware, specifically the resolution, made it less than awesome and made you wishing someone would get this sucker ported to the Fuze. Well folks noellenchris of XDA pulled it off. Ideally I prefer to tout software I’ve tried myself but I gave my momma my Fuze. So I used the boys in #xda-devs to test a slightly tweaked version I made with the AT&T MEdiaNet settings in and according to Jason8 data works out of the box (out of the zip, rather).

To get it running, download this – http://blownfuze.org/files/GoogleAndroid_FuzePort_ATTMEdiaNet_noellenchris_11-03-09.zip – and unzip it onto the root of your SD chip. In WinMo go in File Explorer, to Storage Card and tap haret.exe which is the Linux bootloader and it will start up. You do not need to format or do anything else to your chip and it won’t harm your existing WinMo rom. When you’re tired of it, just soft reset and you’re back in WinMo. Further instructions from XDA – http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4873880#post4873880 and keep an eye on that thread if you get obsessed and want updates down the line.

Known limitations include no AT&T keymap (it uses the Euro layout with the numbers on top), you may not be able to charge the phone while running Android and no SMS unless you download Google Voice (and have an account) from Marketplace. This is Android 1.6 not 2.0 which means no, sorry, you cannot run the awesome Google Maps Navigation software. But hey, Android baby. This is probably as close to Android as you’ll get with AT&T so check out life on the other side. Did I mention Android’s Linux?

Well any news is good news when you are dealing with AT&T. With announcements from just about every US Carrier that they will be supporting the HTC Touch Pro II, the biggest US Carrier AT&T has been hush hush presumably riding the wave of the iPhone 3Gs that was recently released. Our own network of spies have been reporting back that all of the AT&T Stores have pulled the Fuze from the store displays creating some optimism that information on the Fortress would soon be emerging. Well, we were right, but this information is only interesting in that the name of the AT&T version of the Touch Pro II formerly thought to be the “Fortress” may have been a code name and that the “Tilt” brand would return. So today BGR’s highly skilled combat Ninja’s acquired an AT&T Document that the Tilt 2 is in the Pre Launch sheets.

So while I have been struggling to figure out a name for the next niche website to support the HTC Touch Pro II, it appears I might be in luck and a little “recycling” could be in order! Tilt Mobility is still getting our regular readers coming to it daily, and the Tilt/TyTN II is still a very current and functional device with loads of Custom ROMS and Development being done yet with it. So here is a question I hope I can get some of our readers input on, and that is, how would you like to see us go forward and with what website? For those of you that are new to our websites, we currently service the AT&T Tilt and HTC TyTN II on Tilt Mobility, and the AT&T Fuze and HTC Touch Pro on Fuze Mobility. Everyone knows that devices usually last about a year before they are updated to a newer and better device. And since we opened up Forums to support our community, I obviously could not change the domain name of the forums on a yearly basis. So I decided to create a parent website that would be the backbone of everything we do and rename our Forums as well. So I called this new website Mobility Digest and then called the Forums the Mobility Digest Forums. Articles on Mobility Digest range from just about anything Mobility, but mainly center on our passion for Windows Mobile Devices. So that brings everyone up to speed and to my question to our readers. What website would you like to see the HTC Touch Pro II supported on? I shell every use this occasion to create a poll! (We all love polls right?) Having said this, I also registered another domain name and have half heartedly been working on completing it. HTC Mobility was a thought I had that would allow us to stay focused on the Touch Pro II, but also allow our writers to branch out and get other, but still similar devices like the Touch Diamond II, and the HTC Touch HD. So please have a look at the poll and please feel free to drop a comment and let us know what you think. If you have a comment that you don’t want to publish, feel free to email me at doug@mobilitydigest.com. I’m happy to hear from our readers and find out how we can improve our websites. Thanks again to all our readers and we are really looking forward to the future of Windows Mobile Devices and a community that supports them!

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

If you’re the owner of a Fuze or a Touch Pro you’re about to be very happy. XDA member Tarkim has released Raphael Keyboard Configurator (v1.1 is available at the time of this writing). This simple application lets you map the Touch Pro/Fuze’s keyboard as well as the home, and back keys and he claims all keys are mappable (the volume keys appear to register but I’m not looking to press my luck with a good thing:)). So I just used it to do this crazy thing – my ‘back’ button closes apps instead of just minimizing them. Then I mapped my PTT button on a double click to open NewsBreak. You can set the keys to launch an application of your choosing, require double clicks for certain actions, have behavior based on the active app, etc.

To install this just download the file from here. If you do not have sdkcerts installed you must install it now (it’s included in the download) and then install the app (which requires a soft reset). The application itself is in your Settings – System tab. This only works for GSM devices (so do not use this if you have a Sprint or Verizon phone at this time – if an update is available I will update this posting). And uninstalling the app should revert everything back to the good old days. At this point you can only map one special action per key (so I can’t map the back button to ‘back’ on a single press and ‘close’ on a double press). Also changing ‘back’ to ‘close’ works fine as far as I can tell but in some windows it does not function correctly, like in phone, programs and settings, but in individual apps it does close them even WMP (progress is progress in my book:))

Overall it’s pretty slick stuff here – really simple to use and I’m already a big fan. Great work Tarkim! If you appreciate Tarkim’s work don’t forget to support his effort with a cup of coffee.

 Hi Kevin,

I used to have an HTC Tilt, and recently bought a Fuze. I love the phone, but will love it way more when I can get this tool working. I'm using the ATT stock ROM, did you use a different one to get this to work? Furthermore, can you point me in the right direction for NOOB instructions for flashing the ROM? Love the site btw, the tips and tricks section has been immensly useful transitioning to a new phone!

I had it working no a stock Fuze.
Here's a good flashing guide for you from our other site (sorry - I can't find the post on this site but it's the same posting:)) http://www.fuzemobility.com/ready-to-unlock-and-flash/

Thanks! I wonder why this keyboard "fix" works on some Fuze models but not all... On mine, it just disabled all key functions, the uninstallation process fixed the issue, but left me highly dissapointed. Was really hoping to get this to work! Do you think flashing to another ROM would make the hardware keys mappable in, say, AE Button Plus?

Verizon Wireless has approved a firmware update for the HTC Touch Pro, which makes three major improvements.

The update, firmware version 1.08, adds the long-awaited unlocked GPS support. PhoneNews.com previously reported that Verizon agreed to unlock GPS on the Samsung Saga, Samsung Omnia, and HTC Touch Pro. This is the first of three official updates that will make good on that promise, made last year.

PhoneNews.com has confirmed that the update enables standard GPS functionality in Google Maps, as well asWindows Live Search for Mobile.

In addition, the update adds Visual Voicemail support to the Touch Pro. The Samsung Omnia was the first device to add Visual Voicemail. But, like all other Verizon devices, Visual Voicemail will cost $3/month.

Finally, the update adds EVRC-B codec support. EVRC-B is a second revision to the EVRC voice calling codec, and is part of Qualcomm’s fourth generation of voice codecs (4GV). It improves the ability for calls to be managed on the network, in high-demand situations.

PhoneNews.com is offering the firmware update, ahead of its availability on Verizon’s servers. We can verify that the update has been approved by all relevant parties (PCD, HTC, and Verizon).
