Krusell – TOP-10 selling phones for October 2010
If you like the iPhone then you will like the new Krusell TOP 10 selling phones for October 2010 list that they publish monthly. The new iPhone 4 tops the list for the first time is not likely going to get dislodged anytime soon. It will be interesting to see the impact of the European release of the Windows Phone device by HTC, the HD7 and the US release by T-Mobile. Looking at the results for October, the HD2 is still solid in the ranking even though it dropped to number 7 from number 4. So is this a good barometer to gauge the success of Windows Phone? Since Windows Phone will be available on multiple device platforms, I do not look for a single Windows Phone device to overtake the iPhone 4. But as a whole, it will be interesting to see if the new Windows Phone operating system will be the iPhone killer we have been waiting for, instead of always putting our hopes in HTC with Sense UI and Hardware.

Apple is back with iPhone 4 at the top position on Krusell’s Top Seller List for October. The reason for iPhone 4’s third place in September is probably based on Apples failure in meeting the demand for the device. In October the supply has improved both from Apple and from Krusell, says Ulf Sandberg Managing Director at Krusell. Moreover it is of interest to point out that even if media and the industry is disparages Nokia, they still have six out of the ten positions on our list. They are still, by far the biggest player in the mobile device industry, he ends.
The Swedish manufacturer of carrying cases for portable electronics, Krusell, releases its "Top 10"-list for October 2010. The list is based on the number of pieces of custom made mobile and smart phone cases ordered from Krusell during October 2010. Krusell’s list is unique due to the fact that it reflects the sales of phones in six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe.

I really wish you’d put this bit at the beginning of the post. Otherwise it’s kind of misleading, saying “Top 10 Selling Phones.”
I mean, I can see that there’s going to be a correlation between number of phones sold and number of cases sold, but it can hardly be expected to be perfectly accurate. A phone that is very ruggedly constructed isn’t going to be selling many cases for it, for example. On the other hand, a phone that is made of glass and loses signal when you hold it incorrectly might just sell a few extra cases, don’t you think?
This is especially misleading and inaccurate considering Apple just recently finished up a program in which they paid for cases for EVERY customer who wanted one… As far as I know none of the other manufacturers paid for their customers phone cases.
Guys, this is a KRUSELL ranking based on the sales of thier cases. There is nothing misleading here. It states the fact that it is a Krusell Case ranking in the article title, and explains the basis of the ranking in the last paragraph. I got more bad news for you. Like the iPhone or not, it simply dominates individual device sales because there is only ONE iPhone device. Windows Phone and Android devices are spread out of multiple device platforms that are replaced at a very fast rate. The iPhone has an advantage in single device platform sales. Plain and simple as I stated.
Oh, Doug, I fully realize that it is Krusell’s ranking, and that you’re not trying to be misleading. It’s just that to someone who has no idea who Krusell is (like myself before reading these rankings), the title could be misleading. After all, despite what you just said, the word “Case” isn’t in the title, although “Cases” is one of the categories it’s posted in. It says “Krusell – TOP-10 selling phones for October 2010”.
All I’m saying is that phones sold does not equal cases sold. It’s a good indicator, certainly, but it is not the same. Unless the reader is familiar with the fact that Krusell makes and/or sells phone cases, this article appears to be talking about the one, when it’s actually talking about the other.
I just thought that a note indicating that should be placed more prominently than the last paragraph of the story. The crack about the iPhone was largely tongue in cheek. 🙂 I have no illusions about its popularity or lack thereof.
