LG Optimus Vu 5 inch display with 4:3 Aspect Ratio Fail?

lg-optimus-vuThere is no one that is an advocate for larger screens on mobile devices than me. I have popped off about the the need for Apple to increase the size of their puny 3.5 inch retina screen for a while now. But most large screen mobile devices come with a 4.3 to 4.7 inch display that is 16:9 aspect ratio which increases the chances of using the device with one hand. Being able to wrap your hand around the device to answer calls, scroll, or just about anything quickly and easily is what what counts. So when LG posted about the upcoming Optimus Vu, with it’s 5 inch screen sporting a 4:3 aspect ratio, basically making it into a square box, one has to wonder what they are thinking.

With the 4 capacitive buttons across the bottom it definitely appears to be an older model of Android, and according to Engadget, the Vu has some decent specs to accompany the Gingerbread 2.3 OS. 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 SoC, 8 megapixel shooter, 1gb RAM, 8 gb ROM, and some NFC fun. I can’t imaging that LG’s claim that this device is more confortable to use, but if you are a subscriber to the bigger is better screen theory, then maybe the LG Optimus Vu is for you. Drop a comment and let us know what you think, 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio FTW?
