Mobility Digest Review: Bracketron SmartWraps for Phone and Tablet

Today’s review item is a quick one. If you have ever used a zip lock style bag to protect your phone or other electronic devices then today’s item will be very familiar. Bracketron created a set of form fitting zip lock style bags for mobile devices such as smart phones, tablets and eReaders; of course the Apple branded devices are covered too.

If you like to go to the beach or use your devices in hostile environments then the SmartWraps are an ideal way to protect your electronics. Plus the proper size fitting baggy makes use the intended device much simpler and less sill looking than an iPhone in a snack size Zip Lock bag.

SmartWraps protective film still allows full functionality to your device, including phone calls, texting or email. When you’re done using it, simply remove and dispose or recycle.
**SmartWraps are not designed to be submerged in water

What’s in the Box?

The SmartWraps come in packs of six for smaller devices such as smart phones, iPhones and iPods while bigger devices such as eReaders, Tablets and iPads come in three packs.

The product is pretty straightforward; a clear fitted baggy with the zip lock top and a Bracketron logo on the bottom of one side of the baggy.

These baggies are designed to keep devices safe from dust, water, sand and germs but are not designed to be submerged in water.

Bracketron was kind enough to provide us with iPhone and iPad SmartWraps samples.

Impressions / Review:

For testing I use the SmartWraps at the beach and during vacation. Installation is simple, open the zip portion and place your electronic device within the baggy. Next squeeze out any excess air and seal the zip closure. The Bracketron logo marks the back of the bag unless you want the logo blocking your screen.

The bag is composed of a standard zip lock plastic as opposed to “freezer” grab zip lock bags which are slightly thicker in construction. During my outings the SmartWraps were able to keep my Apple devices free of sand and water.

SmartWraps are reusable but the bags did start to show signs of wear after a couple of uses. Also if you have a screen protector such as an Invisible Shield you will get the two plastic surfaces sticking to one another causing bubbles.

Using the SmartWrap with a case is possible if the case used is a low profile one.

Conclusion:

If you like going to the beach then the Bracketron SmartWrap is a good investment. Bracketron priced these protectors at around $6 a pack making it well worth the price to protect one’s precious electronics from scratches or water damage.

Pros:

+Low cost
+Works as advertised

Cons:
-Not submergible
-Bubbling effect with screen protectors.
