Could This Be The New iPad 5 Front Bezel?

April 10th, 2013 — 2:37pm

Apple is big business as everyone knows and investors and analysts have ben trying to get the inside information on their products for years. However, not all leaks should be taken as fact until Tim Cook stands on stage and shows us otherwise. So with that, a French Blog today was able to get some exclusive pictures of what they are calling the next iPad 5’s front cover and bezel.  We know there has been rumors that Apple would but their 9.7 inch tablet on a diet and reduce it’s overall footprint. So here is some proof that what we think might happen, could very well indeed…happen:

Now, the next question is, will the next iPad come with iOS 7?

Samsung Galaxy S IV Rumors Heat Up April Release

February 6th, 2013 — 11:40am

samsung-galaxy-s-3-sideWe have been talking a lot lately about the BlackBerry launch of their 2 new devices and then there has been a lot of discussion on the rollout of Windows Phone 7.8 as well. The Surface Pro embargo lifted yesterday and the emails have been plentiful on that new tablet from Microsoft. There is obviously no shortage of iPhone or Apple rumors either. For our Android readers let’s take a break and throw some Sammy rumors that are hitting regarding the massively successful Galaxy S smartphones and the upcoming announcement for the 4th version.

One source has suggested that we could be seeing invites go out after this months WMC in Barcelona for a March 15 announcing of the Galaxy S IV. This would make for a release date of April. Just like previous versions the SGS4 will be a heavyweight in the specs arena:

  • Exynos 5 Octa (8-Core) CPU
  • Mali-T658 (8-Core) GPU
  • 5 inch Super AMOLED Full HD Screen
  • 13 Megapixel Rear Shooter 1080p Video @ 30FPS!
  • 2 Megapixel Front Shooter with 720HD Videos
  • Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean

The GT-I9500, or Galaxy S IV is also said to be coming in two colors black and white. I wouldn’t look for much in the way of a design change, why mess with brilliant looking device. Stay tuned for more and if you like having the latest a greatest device and you have an upgrade, a couple more months might get you a loaded out SGS4!

Apple Rumors On Next iPad 5, iPhone 5S, and IPad Mini 2

January 26th, 2013 — 3:10pm

Investors and analysts all start circling around Apples next new device because of how big business Apple is and they all want the inside information on production and what to expect in the next Apple device. This is good for us because being consumers and gadget geeks we are all excited to see what we can expect to stand in line for next on launch day.
To start off with Apple appears ready to launch a shiny new iPhone this June/July getting back on their summer release cycle and what it won’t be called is the iPhone 6. Instead it will be called the iPhone 5S and have a few hardware updates. Rumored is the camera getting a much needed overhaul. From the current 8 megapixel shooter it will go to a Sony 13 megapixel camera plus a flash update. It also appears certain that the processor will get a horsepower increase. Code names for the prototypes are said to be called the N51 and N53.
There is only a code name for the full size 10 inch iPad 5 circulating which is J72. But it is the rumors on the second version of the iPad Mini that are getting juicy as it is said to have a code name of J85 and is slated to make its retail presence known in October with the iPad 5 just in time for Christmas. The mini, which is a sure bet to have a retina screen added could also see some more bulk added like it’s big brother the iPad 2 did when it got fitted for a retina display and became the iPad 3.
I personally passed on the iPad 4 not seeing a major reason to upgrade from my iPad 3 which has some retina screen goodness and does everything I need it to do. I did upgrade from my iPhone 4S to the 5 because of the screen size but ended up kicking myself because of the camera issues I have with the 5. So for me it looks like I will be in line for the iPhone 5S for sure to get in on some Sony camera love, but unless something really spectacular with the iPad 5 happens I will again be holding back. Processor speed for me is a non issue and no reason to upgrade. Apples OS, as outdated as it is, still is very optimized and I rarely have issues like my Android phone sometimes has. So until iOS 7 gets released and possibly has some feature not compatible with older devices, there does not look like a real need for me to stand in the Fruit line this year.

HTC to release a 7-inch Windows RT device that makes phone calls in 2013

December 20th, 2012 — 9:24pm

imageWait what? It’s 7”, Windows RT based and makes calls. And it’s not Windows Phone OS – it’s RT based. This is according to Bloomberg who claims that HTC is working on two Windows RT tablets – a 12” and 7” device, with the 7” having phone call capabilities. These are rumored for Q3 2013. HTC recently said they scrapped a larger Windows Phone because of the lack of high resolution support, but WinRT is capable of higher resolutions. This is interesting as Windows Phone seems to have a 5” and below market whereas 7”+ will be for Windows RT. Not sure if this is good or bad as the app markets are different. This is also rumored to be the first 7” WinRT device (really, a Nook won’t come first?). But we’ll have to see how Microsoft optimizes RT for smaller devices. I don’t love the fragmentation – a phone that’s not running the Phone OS and a different market.

I think they need to standardize their OS line further and move the Phone OS to a purer RT core with a market based on resolution and capabilities. I do like where this is headed though.

Is Microsoft really going to pass on retail for Windows 8?

September 14th, 2012 — 10:40am

Wow, file this under “Dislike”: According to WPCentral, according to Chinese site WPDang, Microsoft will NOT be selling Windows 8 at retail. That means you have to purchase a PC with W8 pre-loaded, buy a PC with W7 and get a coupon for W8, or already own a certified copy of XP, Vista, or W7 and go through the online update process.

Who looses here? The computer-savvy build-exactly-what-I-want users and the I-don’t-have-any-Internet or I-have-dial-up users.

I’ve built my own machines. In fact, I took a lighting strike to my PC in June and I’m slowly saving the funds to rebuild it. (I can make it better, faster. And I will name it Steve Austin.) So I really, really, Really do NOT like the sound of that.

Now, keep in mind, however, that this is a RUMOR. I sincerely hope it stays that way.

iPhone 5 to Run Android ?!? What?!

September 5th, 2012 — 9:09am

Yes that’s not true, the iPhone 5 will not be running Android, but it’s a catchy headline isn’t it?  It’s just one of the rumors that was floating around about the new iPhone 5 and our friends at Mobile Fun put together a top ten list as it were of iPhone 5 rumors and I just thought I’d share I with you so you could check it out for yourself… My favorite is the ‘quote’ from Tim Cook: “iOS was holding us back… [We] decided to reskin Android with brushed aluminum and call it a day.” Speaking to journalists later, he remarked “No one will notice anyway.”

Number 10 is just a plug for Mobile Fun of course but the other nine are rumors that were floating around.

When you get a chance stop on over and read the whole list of true and false rumors about the new iPhone 5: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/2012/09/10-iphone-5-rumours-true-or-false/

New iPhone Screen Compared To The Galaxy S III [VIDEO]

August 23rd, 2012 — 11:50am

Smartphone Medic has released a video of some leaked parts that we are assuming will be on the new iPhone, or iPhone 5 if the stay with the numbering system like they have in the past. They departed from the numbering system on the new iPad, simply calling it an iPad and not the iPad 3, but anything is possible with Apple and the jump to the “5” might help separate it from the 4 and 4S.

So with the leaked parts, Smartphone Medic identify’s from the front panel that Apple has moved the proximity sensor and camera on the new iPhone and swapped positions. Now the camera optic is on top where it was on the left hand side of the speaker on the 4 and 4S.

But the major difference, the difference we have all been hoping for, is the screen. We now get a side by side comparison of what is alleged to be the new iPhone 5’s screen size with that of the 4S and most notably, the Samsung Galaxy S III. Even though I am a huge fan of Apple increasing the screen size, the leaked screen seems a little weird to me. The length of the screen has been greatly increased to 4 inches, but the width has stayed the same. Compared to the 4S, it is a welcomed change, but when looking at it next to the SGS3, I think it becomes apparent that the screen is not wide enough. It looks almost like it was not a confident decision on Apple’s part to increase the screen size. I think it is still an improvement, don’t get me wrong, but watching movies or video on this screen will almost seem a little weird when compared to watching videos on the SGS3 for example that is more proportional in width and length.

The video gores on to show some more internal components and how it is becoming apparent that Apple is moving things around on the outside of the device. It’s no secret or new rumor that the headphone jack will be relocated to the bottom. Something I am not a fan of. I use my iPhone when running and the jack on the bottom will force me to put the device in upside down in my arm holder. You wouldn’t want to reroute the cord from the bottom up.

Check out the video below and drop a comment or two on what you think. Am I happy with the new iPhone? No. Am I going to be in line to get one at launch? Hell yeah and using up every dollar of my Best Buy “buy back” to get it too!

Apple’s iPhone 5 could be .44mm Thinner

August 14th, 2012 — 12:50pm

iphone-5I know there are some silent iPhone followers out there that read our site in the midst of all these Windows Phone bullies we have here, but fear not, I’m here to shield you from their abuse and maintain some levity around these parts! In all seriousness, I do own multiple devices including a HTC Titan II Windows Phone but I always seem to rely on my iPhone 4S as a daily driver. So let’s head off on some news and rumors about the next iPhone perhaps sliming down by .44mm!

It’s all due to “in-cell” display technology that Apple has (sit down and wait for it) patented under United States Patent#8,243,027. Where the current screen technology uses multiple layers to achieve display and touch functions, the method would allow the touch functions to be integrated with in the LCD layer instead of separate. Here is an portion of the Apple patent:

Disclosed herein are liquid-crystal display (LCD) touch screens that integrate the touch sensing elements with the display circuitry. The integration may take a variety of forms. Touch sensing elements can be completely implemented within the LCD stackup but outside the not between the color filter plate and the array plate. Alternatively, some touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates with other touch sensing elements not between the plates. In another alternative, all touch sensing elements can be between the color filter and array plates. The latter alternative can include both conventional and in-plane-switching (IPS) LCDs. In some forms, one or more display structures can also have a touch sensing function. Techniques for manufacturing and operating such displays, as well as various devices embodying such displays are also disclosed.

Various experts claim that the technology could reduce the current screen size up to .44mmm. This would be great news for the Cupertino based Apple as they are rumored also to bring a new and larger screen size to the iPhone 5 as well. The 4 inch screen, while still puny next to the likes of most Android and Windows Phone flagship devices, is a first for iPhone users tired of the 3..5 inch screen we have had to suffer with for so long.

So would purists that like the small iPhone design and possibly pout about the larger device be satisfied with a thinner iPhone as well? Until we get  look at this shiny new iPhone nothing is for sure, but I for one would welcome a thinner device with a larger screen. On thing is for sure, Apple has got to hit this one out the park. The iPhone 4s did not move that far away from the iPhone 4, and the same could be said with the new iPad. A new design on the iPhone loaded with some innovative hardware will help sell this device with an already ho-hum iOS 6 coinciding release.
