Bill Gates Getting Flack Over Immigration Op-Ed Article

G-Zillionaire Billy Gates is catching some flack over an Op-Ed article he co-wrote on immigration where he is calling for more visas for skilled tech workers at the same time that Microsoft is laying off 18K people. Now granted, most of those are overlapping jobs held my newly acquired Nokia but it hasn’t stopped our fine outstanding members of congress from taking a swing back at Gates:

“Mr. Gates says we need to let more and more people into our country to take those kinds of jobs,” Sessions said. “We need them working first before we bring more people in… I don’t think you can make the argument that we have a labor shortage.”

Bill Gates and buddies Sheldon Adelson and Warren Buffett co-wrote the article together slamming congress for not passing immigration bill. Where I do agree with Bill Gates is on his assessment of the current state of the United States Legislative Branch and how dysfunctional it is. Gates has claimed in the past that the US has a shortage of highly skilled STEM workers even though we have a high unemployment rate. That’s not saying that there is a surplus of STEM workers in the unemployment pool but then I am curious as to how many people could be lured over by passing and immigration law either.

Gates has yet to respond to Senator Sessions remarks but we will keep you posted if he does.
