Energy-Saving USB Wall Outlets Coming from Current Werks
|Now these, I have to admit, are just really cool. We’ve heard about these before, but they kind of disappeared and really weren’t heard from again. This product I think is certainly mobile related as it’s USB and most phones, tablets etc use USB to charge. Who wouldn’t want USB ports right there next to the electrical outlet, no more hunting for the USB to Ac adapter, just plug it in and you’re charging. Current Werks is going to be offering a four USB outlet that is just USB ports and then they’re also offering a dual USB port outlets with two USB ports and two standard wall outlets. They’re also much less expensive than i thought they would be.
Current Werks, a leading innovator in green mobile power storage and charging devices, today introduced two industry-changing, energy-saving USB wall outlets: the Quattro and Duo. Current Werks will exhibit these innovations in booth #74010 in the Eureka Park TechZone for new products and services at the 2012 International CES Tradeshow, January 10-13 inLas Vegas.
The Quattro (patent pending) is the first product in the industry that replaces a standard electrical wall outlet with four powerful USB charging ports. The Quattro’s four USB ports deliver a combined output of 22Watts, making the Quattro the most powerful in-wall charging solution available anywhere. The Quattro also features an innovative (patent pending) tamper-resistant door that when closed completely eliminates standby power, also known as vampire power. The Quattro has the ability to replace four bulky USB AC adapters with one wall outlet.
The Duo (patent pending) features two powerful in-wall USB charging ports delivering 16Watts of output power from a standard 110V wall outlet. The Duo’s advanced power management design gives the consumer a total of four charging solutions, two USB charging ports and two standard US/CAN sockets from a single wall outlet. This makes the Duo the second most powerful in-wall charging solution available in the market today, surpassed only by the Quattro. The Duo supports 15Amp and 20Amp wall receptacles.
The Quattro and Duo USB Wall Outlets, with their energy-saving design, are ideal for both commercial and residential applications. They are powerful enough to provide the fastest charge available to even the most power-hungry portable devices, such as Apple’s iPad® and iPhone® as well as Android® smartphones and tablets. The Quattro and Duo outlets are designed to maximize charging power and wall outlet space available for charging, while eliminating unnecessary charging wall clutter.
Shipping January 2012, the Current Werks USB wall outlets are priced at $39.98 for the Quattro and$24.98 for the Duo. They are both available for preorders today at http://www.currentwerks.com, The Quattro and Duo will be available in white, light almond and ivory. The Duo can be ordered in regular or decorator style.
I like the one with 4USB outlets. I could easily replace my power strip that charges 4 devices with this.
are you kidding $40 for the power outlet…… I’ll definitely stay out of this…
I don’t think $40 is too bad as if I recall when these were first talked about they were priced at well over $50 for just the two USB ports.. Not the same company, but still the prices were much higher than these… You have to remember though, like all things the prices will come down as they become more popular and more companies make them.
I’m digging the DUO. I can keep my coffee maker plugged in while charge both mine and my wife’s phones!
A GFI outlet costs $25 at my local “Home store” I would purchase 5 of the Duo, don’t think I need Quatro.
I actually built a small table, there is a power strip on the inside. I mounted outlets on the outside walls that have a single standard power recepticle. There is a switch in the other position wired to turn the outlet off. The whole outlet switch unit is wired to plug into the power strip.
Plug your AC Adapter into the outlet, plug in your device, turn on the outlet, and lay your device down on the table to charge.
It is next to the sofa, I have an extension cable so I can use my device while it charges.
Turn off the outlet with the switch when done, just remember to make sure you turn it back on to charge.
Peace
That is awesome… Santa probably read my mind… No more kids arguments/fighting of who got the charger… With 5 iphones, 2 ipads, 6 ipods around the house it’s always a nightmare in the evening when everyone needs the charger. Great idea, solves a lot of problems. Where can I buy!! Perfect Christmas Gift 🙂
this will make gaming easier when my controller runs out of power
$25 for the duo isn’t bad at all. The quattro’s probably $40 because it’s brand new to the market. I dunno, I want one!
I just looked at my wall outlets and thought to myself how much i’d love to have some USB wall outlets. Great timing and glad to see I won’t be breaking the bank to install them in the home.
