So, here I am, I’m here, it’s good to be somewhere… and I’m back with another little program to help you get your videos onto your phones. Today I’ve got iSkysoft Video Converter, it’s not a DVD ripper like most I’ve looked at, it’s just made to take your current video files and convert them to smaller and compatible format to your phone. Of course you could sort of use this for your DVDs as well, but it would be a two step process that would require you to rip the DVD them use iSkysoft to convert it to play on your phone.

First let’s check out the information from the iSkysoft Website:

The interface is fairly plan, not much to look at really.

Across the top is ‘Add’, ‘Edit’ and ‘Options’. Clinking on options brings up some very basic choices. Language, format for stills and updating.

On the bottom of the main we find a Convert To option, this is the pop up type of menu with all of the different selection choices. I’ll be using Windows Mobile .WMV to use with my Tilt.

This isn’t a DVD ripper but I thought I might try grabbing the .VOB files as it states it can convert them, but it didn’t work for me, the program crashed. Click on the add button and navigate tot eh files you want then it imports them, but for whatever reason it just didn’t work for me.

So, I grabbed another video file I had on hand that was similar in size, 3.9gb to be exact. It’s an .AVI video file actually of gameplay I took while playing H.A.W.X.

iSkysoft does have video editing features like adjusting the size, effect, trimming, watermarking and subtitles.

After you done editing, if you do any, you can then continue on to convert the file or you can hit the settings to change resolution, encoders, bitrates etc if you wish to.

Once you hit start the program starts doing its thing.

Checking the CPU usage we see it uses about 50% of my quad core processor so it can work well with dual core system, it just isn’t optimized for quads I guess.

The encoding time took 2:34, which is nice and fast. The output size of the file was 16.7MB which is very small, you’ll be able to fit many of these even on a small storage card.

The quality of the video seemed fine for the size of it, and the audio was synced as it should be to the video.

iSkysoft Video Converter is not bad software, it works fast and outputs a nice small file size.

The problem is of course the crash I encountered when trying to use a format that they list as being compatible with the software, not sure what happened there.

On the plus side it does have some nice editing features.

The price though of $35 is a bit high I think though, especially since it can’t rip DVDs. If you want to transfer DVDs to your phone you’ll have to find something free or purchase another piece of software to do it then you can use iSkysoft Video Converter to make the DVD fit your phone.

It’s not for me really, but people who do a lot of video work might be happy with this software.
