New Report Finds More Than One In Four Mobile Phone Users Drive While Texting

When I first saw this subject line in my inbox I thought it was actually an article or report, but it’s more of an advertisement for Vlingo, though it does have merits I guess. It looks as though Vlingo did some research into this, and found what most people already know, that people text while driving was to often. Texting, eating, putting makeup on and even talking on cellphones while driving drives me nuts. I have the ‘luxury’ of driving around quite a bit and I pay attention quite a bit to what’s going on around me, I have to, usually I’ve got my kids in the car. I see these morons out there texting, talking and doing everything but driving, I watch them as they don’t use turn signals because of course that would involve putting the phone down and I watch them just blow right through red lights because their phone call is much more important than paying attention to their driving. If I didn’t pay as good attention as I do I would have been in numerous accidents by now. All I can say is that if one of you morons hit me while texting, eating, talking while driving, and my children get hurt, the police will be the least of your worries, I can guarantee you that. There is NOTHING that you are texting or talking about that is worth the lives of my children, you ARE NOT that important, get over it.

…oh and get up earlier to put your damn makeup on please.

I could go on and on and get really rude as this is a subject that really, really aggravates me. Personally I always have my Jawbone2 with me when I drive and I try never to call anyone while driving, it can wait until I get where I’m going, and if I have to make a call that’s what voice recognition is for, I don’t have to dial anything.

Anyway, enough of that rant… read on for the press release that I started talking about, and I’m not sure what’s up with all capital lettering either in this release.

DAVE GRANNAN, CEO OF VLINGO:

"Let’s face it…it’s tempting to text while you’re driving and many people are guilty of it! The good news is that many state legislatures are starting to take up this issue, but we’ve got to realize laws alone are not enough. We need to combine these laws with advanced technologies to keep people focused on driving!"
