I believe they collected all the statistics with the help of CarrierIQ. At least there is something useful of CarrierIQ.

Android doesn’t need Carrier IQ. Their whole OS is a method of them to collect your data and feed you ads. The TOS are really a blanket surrender of personal information 😉
