Windows 8.1 is here. Go get it. (Timmy sets me straight. Incremental 8.1 update.)

Now calm down folks. If you’re like me you read that and thought you were about to be doing some phone updates. Not true. This is desktop OS update for Windows 8 to 8.1. Story broke out of Microsoft news and I’m going through the process myself as I type this. They did it in the worst way possible but they did it. They give you a list of the individual updates you are supposed to do and then proceed, below that, to tell you to do it in a different order that what they had posted the individual update modules. Yeah, some geniuses at work over there. I’ll do you one better and list them in the Correct order. I’m also going to break this down by type of desktop. We’re going to have ARM, X64, and X86 in that order. Here we go…

ARM Updates to do in this order:

1. KB2919442 (you may already have this installed).

2. KB2919355

3. KB2932046

4. KB2937592

5. KB2938439

6. KB2939087

Now X64:

1. KB2919442  (you may already have this installed).

2. KB2919355

3. KB2932046

4. KB2937592

5. KB2938439

6. KB2939087

And on to old faithful, X86:

1. KB2919442  (you may already have this installed).

2. KB2919355

3. KB2932046

4. KB2937592

5. KB2938439

6. KB2939087

And there you have it folks.  Let me know if all my linking worked correctly and whether or not this whole change towards the old keyboard and mouse movement is better or worse.

UPDATE:  I’m also finding that if you do a few of these, then a restart, then check for updates through auto updater it will push the major 8.1 updates to you.  Good luck, folks.
