Double wide WindowsPhone Live tiles. It should happen!Playing with 7.8 and all I have is two large live tiles – calendar and photos (I like to see my photos flip around for some reason). But these are exactly the same as day one for WP 7.0 for me.  It looks like having messaging double wide doesn’t give a preview.

So what does? Any good apps that take advantage of the extra space?  Share with the group.

  1. I’ve not found much at the moment, apart from doubling the width of my ‘friends’ group – the pics look funky, and you can see their full status updates, rather than being cut short. Would be good to see if there are any other apps though.

  2. It is hard to believe that the double-wide tile for Messaging doesn’t give a preview. If true that is major oversight.

I hope the notifications don’t freeze up after the screen is loaded up with smaller live tiles.

I do think the Google Voice app MetroTalk has been updated to 7.8.

  3. I made Flat Beats support large tiles for the main app and when you pin a mix. Not particularly useful but it looks cool!

  4. why can’t I make the pictures tile double wide? I can only make it small and medium:(….someone help?

  5. I also hav use da wide tile fer my family n people hub… Da games hub (looks cool being big) n of course da pictures hub… Havent really had da chance to try on others yet, just fun with da new looks n all :D

  6. I was disappointed that the calendar doesn’t rotate through upcoming appointments like was hinted in some of the early preview demos. AppoinTile does a nice job of showing the next 3/4 appointments though.

Also, if you’re weather-obsessed, Amazing Weather crams a TON of info into a double wide tile plus a flip. I keep mine at medium, but I could see some people using this.

  7. Wide tiles on my phone:

    Xbox Games (the green tile)
Music & Videos (Shows last played artist’s image)
    Pinned contacts, groups and artists
Facebook for Windows Phone (shows cover photo and status)

  8. Hey guys !

Also try out Fuse, it lets you pin almost any kind of feeds as a wide live-tile!!
Depending on your interests ofcourse. I found it really nice and well designed :)

    It works on WP 7.8

  9. I do accept as true with all the ideas you’ve presented in your post. They are really convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too quick for beginners. May you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
