If you have an iThingy then go get your download on. iOS 4.1 is available to download now. If you thought your iThingy was perfect before just wait – it’ll be more perfect now! ;) There’s bug fixes (proximity sensor included) as well as:

    • The iOS 4.1 Software Update is the first major update to iOS 4, bringing Game Center, new iTunes features, high dynamic range photography, and more to iPhone.
    • Experience social gaming on your iPhone. Find friends or use auto-match to play multiplayer games against new opponents. Track achievements and compare high scores.
    • Rent TV shows commercial-free right from your iPhone for just 99¢ an episode and start watching them in minutes.
    • Take advantage of new social discovery features in iTunes. Keep up with your friends’ music and follow your favorite artists.
    • Take great photos that capture a wider range of light intensity using the new high dynamic range (HDR) setting on iPhone 4, which automatically combines multiple exposures into a single HDR image.
    • Upload HD video to YouTube and MobileMe from your iPhone 4.

If you’re jailbroken don’t do this unless you are willing to not be jailbroken any longer as it undoes your jailbrokeness.

  1. @Chris Leiter: correct- I read somewhere that the unlockers are not going to jailbreak 4.1 because they’ll save their resources for 4.2 which is a bigger fish to fry.

  2. Apple has added some nice feature in this version but if you are using a jailbroken iPhone or planning to jailbreak after updating your iPhone, I suggest you should stay away from this update as dev team has clearly stated:

There’s currently no known way to revert your baseband — if you update your baseband you’ll lose the ultrasn0w unlock, possible[sic] forever. Please stay away from this 4.1 release until a safe jailbreak procedure (which also preserves ultrasn0w) is developed and released.

So it’s better wait for some days or may be in a day we will have some good news to share :)

  3. @Harsh Agrawal, I imagine that with Apple having already announced 4.2 fo November, that we won’t see anything about a JB until after that has been released.

  4. @Harsh Agrawal:

EXCELLENT. I don’t mind updating at all, as long as there is a way for the Jailbreak to fix the issues with the phone :)

To be honest, there’s only a handful of things that I absolutely need with a JB’d phone:
    1. Activator – If you have a JB’d iphone and don’t have activator tweaked and configured like crazy, you’re missing out on a lot of added functionality.
    2. MyWi – Free wireless tethering. That is all.
    3. My3G – able to use any “wifi only” app over 3G, and download large files via itunes and app store. also enables facetime via 3g
    4. Notified – keeps a record of your popup push notifications. Fixes one of the major flaws that apple has neglected to address for years.
    5. Five app tray icons vs four. Yes. It makes that much of a difference.
