Get the Glif for your iPhone 4

Maybe the handiest accessory you will get for your iPhone 4 will soon be available. The Glif which is proudly funded by KICKSTARTER is a very clever tripod mount and device stand for your iPhone 4. The project was started by Dan Provost and he set out raising money by donations to fund the project. With a $10,000 goal they have been pledges $137,417 so far by 5273 backers! Most folks went the $20 dollar pledge and will receive a free Glif when they are available. But I was very surprised to see that there are 527 $50 dollar backers and 25 backers who donated $250 dollars or more!

I hate that I missed the Donations part of the project and if you read the UPDATES tab on KICKSTARTER they have already started shipping “3D printed prototypes to our $50 (and above) backers”. you can sign up for an email update when they are avaiable and I could not find an official price but it looks like it will be in the $25 dollar range.

“The idea for the Glif was first formed when we realized the iPhone 4 is literally the best camera we’ve ever owned. With the addition of HD video recording and High Dynamic Range photography, it’s clear Apple is positioning the iPhone as a very high quality portable camera. But because of its small form factor (and Apple’s minimalist design approach) it will never contain a threaded nut for attaching a tripod – standard on almost all photo and video cameras. Solutions for mounting an iPhone to a tripod exist (DIY or otherwise) but they are typically bulky and cumbersome. Our goal was to create something small, simple, and elegant.

It was always our intention for the Glif to serve as a kickstand for the iPhone as well, but it took several design iterations before we got it just right. The beauty of the design we finally arrived at is that it allows the iPhone to be positioned at a variety of different angles and orientations.”
