Mobility Digest Review: HC C840 Genuine HTC One Double Dip Hard Shell Case
|I got a new phone! I got a new phone!! Yep I got the HTC One last week and I’m absolutely loving it, even though I really haven’t played with it all that much… Seriously though it’s a great phone so far, call quality is excellent, and it’s seriously fast and the screen is just gorgeous. I still find it amazing that the HTC One with a 4.7” screen is running the same resolution as my 47” HDTV, but oh well, it’s a beautiful screen plain and simple. One of the first things I do when I get a new phone is get a case and a screen protector, in fact I ordered one of each a week before I knew the phone was arriving! So the case I got was from Amazon, but I got an official HTC case from our friends at Mobile Fun for review which is much better than the cheap one from Amazon. The case I have for review today is the HTC HC C840, or the Double Dip Hard Shell case and it’s a great case overall, well made and it offer a lot of protection for the phone. So read on to learn more….

What’s in the Box?
So here’s something, the box actually came with a screen protector on it?! Odd but whatever, the box is rather plain really, it’s mostly window so you can see the case.
The back of the box has just basic specs and features listed in several languages.
When you take the case out of the box it has a cardboard protective insert in it.
The case gets the name Double Dip from the two colors on the ends obviously. The case is plastic and has red and dark gray on the top and bottom while the middle is sort of a light gray.
If you look at the back of the case you can really see the whole Double Dip idea, the back of the case is almost white, it’s a very light gray.
The case comes apart, the top and bottom sections easily come off.
Impressions / Review:
So here’s my HTC One with the case. If you look there are little tabs on the main section of the case and holes on the end pieces, that’s how they fit together. The case though won’t stay together without the phone in it, it’s just falls right apart.
To get the HTC One in the case you just slide it into the case and then snap the ends on.
Once you get your phone in the case it’s hard to get out. The ends snap in place and the phone actually holds them in or on with pressure.
I love the looks of the case with the phone in it, it looks really nice I think. The case does come up over the sides of the phone to help protect the edges of the screen, which is a nice touch.
The coloring of the case is a nice contrast. The case has openings for the camera, flash and rear microphone.
The top front of the case has openings for the camera, speaker and sensors.
The very top of the case has openings for the audio port and the power button/IR sensor. The opening for the sensor is large and it should not impede the signals.
The bottom of the case is the same with openings for the speaker, microUSB port and the microphone.
The side just has the volume buttons and they’re handily labeled for you.
The case is great overall, I like it a lot.
One small gripe is the lack of covers on the microUSB and audio ports. Oh well…
Conclusion:
So if you have the HTC One I can honestly say that the Double Dip case is a great choice to protect your new phone.
The case is very well made and it will stay on your phone and it looks great, it really compliments the HTC One.
The ports, speakers and sensors are all open which is a good thing, but I would prefer some sort of cover over the audio and microUSB ports. Other than that the Double Dip is an excellent case overall.
The price is under $30, which seems fine, as it is an official HTC product so it’s guaranteed to fit the HTC One specifically. The case is well made with no flaws that I found, and it looks great.
Pros:
+Phone stays in case
+Decent protection for phone overall
+Case wraps around edges to protect screen
Cons:
-Kind of hard to get off
-Doesn’t cover audio or microUSB ports
