PSA: Verizon Service Down for Some in Baltimore

If you live in the Baltimore area you may have noticed that your Verizon service is rather spotty or maybe non-existent! The reason for that is because of a train derailment to the west of the city. Don’t worry though, Verizon is working hard to restore services for everyone with some of it already back up and running. Full info in the PR below:

A train derailment west of Baltimore in Ellicott City early this morning (Aug. 21) has damaged Verizon facilities at the site of the accident.

Some Verizon customers in the area may have trouble completing long-distance calls, and data services for some business and government customers may also be affected.

Verizon is awaiting the go-ahead from local authorities to gain access to its facilities at the derailment site.  Verizon technicians are ready to access the damaged facilities when permission is given and will work in round-the-clock shifts until all services are restored.

The company has already restored services to some customers by rerouting network traffic to other facilities.

Verizon will provide a further update by 1 p.m. ET today.
