Apple settles with Proview for $60M over iPad
by Marti M on July 2, 2012
Ooops. Remember, boys and girls, when you make a purchase, make sure that your “i"’s are dotted and your “t”s are crossed!
In 2009, Apple bought the global rights to the name iPad from Shenzhen Proview Technology. Unfortunately for Apple, Chinese authorities say that those rights in China were never transferred. Proview’s now in deep debt, and they hoped to cash in, big time. And at $60 million USD, they STILL might go bankrupt.
Ouch.

Exactly, especially when it looks like Proview may have wanted $400M! That’s nothing to them, too, but it’s more nothing…

More importantly, it lets the Chinese save face and say, “See? We can work with Western tech companies…”
