Turn by turn based games are fun and all but playing real time multiplayer games is definitely a better element. Channel 9 (Microsoft effectively) just put together a short post on how devs can add code to their Windows Phone Mango games to provide for peer-to-peer multiplayer over WiFi. They note that “Phones running the game on the same WiFi network automatically discover one another and the players just appear on the screen.” Sweet.

  1. Was hoping to hear about some infrastructure support so I wouldn’t have to be local to the other player. Oh well.

  2. Had a look, this is nice, hopefully later someone will add bluetooth support (when there is an API) and multiplayer stand alone games will explode in popularity.
