There is no denying the impact the iPad has made. It’s wildly popular and maintains that popularity into the third version of Apple’s “Post PC” device called the “New iPad” or just iPad. Apple decided not to use the “3” at the end of the device, which may lead to the iPhone being called just that, iPhone, and not the iPhone 5 as we expected early on.
So what did the earliest of iPad concepts look like? As a concept device as far back as 2002, it did not look all that much different than today’s version, just a lot thicker. The only other difference other than girth is that the home button is located on the back and not at the bottom like all Apple devices.
