Approaches 750 Million Downloads Making GetJar Second Largest App Store Next to Apple

GetJar, the world’s largest cross-platform app store, today announced that it is the winner of the prestigious Mobile Excellence Award for Best Mobile Service. The Mobile Excellence Awards is the industry’s leading and most influential awards program and honours innovation, creativity and excellence in mobile entertainment. This year, GetJar was selected for its innovative premium advertising system, Pay-Per-Download (PPD) that allows developers and brand owners to bid for premium visibility and drive downloads for their apps on the GetJar mobile app store. Additionally, GetJar is closing in on the billion download mark, making it the second largest app store in the world.

It’s a tremendous honour to be recognized as a leading mobile app store and we share the credit with our developers and partners,” said GetJar CEO, Ilja Laurs. “We’ve always believed in giving content owners and developers large and small the necessary tools to stand out in the marketplace and we’re glad that the top industry leaders agree.

GetJar introduced the PPD premium advertising service to give developers and brand owners the opportunity to bid for high visibility of their apps and thereby boost downloads. PPD allows developers and content owners to geo-target their campaign by region and by handset and to allocate a daily budget for promoting a particular app or mobile site. Since developers and brand owners only pay when they get downloads, they are able to generate new users at a fraction of the cost of traditional Cost Per Click (CPC) or Cost Per Impression (CPM) campaigns. At a time when more applications are coming to market, giving content owners and developers the opportunity to market their own content within an app store will ultimately mean the difference between success and failure for many of these companies.

GetJar is also the recipient of the 2009 Meffy Award for Best Direct to Customer Service.
