There is a mountain of information in the breakout sessions that took place during Build 2014. One of the sessions that piqued my interest was Live Tile Enhancements. One of the things that I can say is that the improvements for Windows Phone 8.1 do not stop at Cortana or the Action/NotificationCenter. This session, led by Matt Hidinger-Program Manager OSG Notfications, showcased a couple of nuggets of information.

The first, the tile template catalogue is now merged between Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 for the first time. This means that tiles will function in very similar fashion between the two platforms and developers don’t have to assign two separate behaviors to the tiles. That cuts down on the coding and breaks in the user experience. The second, which I think helps separates Windows Phone 8.1 from the pack, is when pinning websites the tiles no longer are static but are actually behavior in a live manner similar to apps delivering users relevant, timely information. The demo of the Live Pinned Websites starts at 31:39 of the video.

Folks, Windows Phone 8.1 is the gift that just keeps on giving and there isn’t a dud in the package. Stay tuned into as we continue to comb through the sessions for more highlights of the imminent Windows Phone 8.1 update.

  1. Now all we need is a small chunk of Plutonium to power our phones for all this neat stuff. Maybe Iran can export this around the world, along with their; oil, pistachios and dates.
