December 22nd, 2010 — 12:41pm written by Doug Smith

motzwoodenpowerspeakerIf you are into the rustic living or want that log cabin look about your house, then why not listen to your tunes via the MOTZ Wooden Power Speaker. At first glance I thought the front of the speaker could double for that Peg Game we waste time with at Cracker Barrel, but there may be a few peg holes missing which would not stop the massive cheating my kids do when playing it anyway.peggame

Verizon working the major blogs for HTC Incredible HD Love

December 22nd, 2010 — 12:20pm written by Doug Smith

htc4glteverizonI always get a chuckle out of how tight lipped Wireless Carriers are about devices that aren’t released yet but then the devices are caught in the wild somehow. Well, it get’s even better than that when last night all the Major Tech Blogs got a picture of the soon to be released Verizon HTC Incredible HD.

BGR got some pretty good love as you can see below and the list also includes Engadget, SlashGear, and the image above is from Gizmodo.

Enjoy the the images “leaked” last night of the new Verizon HTC Incredible HD Android Device.

BGR and Android Central got the images below:

Dell Streak now $400 Unlocked save $180

December 22nd, 2010 — 12:04pm written by Doug Smith

dellstreaksalethumbIf you are in the market for a very good tablet then add the Dell Streak to your wish list. The 5inch Tablet phone is now $400 dollars from the fine folks at Dell unlocked and ready to go. That’s 180 dollars off the original price. The catch? Well, you won’t have it until after the first of the year and the $400 dollar Streak will come pre loaded with Android 1.6 on it, but an update after first use to Android 2.2 (Froyo) will happen over the air. The update is easy as you can see here:

http://mobilitydigest.com/dell-streak-updated-to-android-2-2-froyo/

If you want to see how Froyo will look on the streak then check this out as well:

http://mobilitydigest.com/what-to-expect-from-froyo-on-the-dell-streak/

I still really like this device and think it is an excellent choice. I have played with the iPad and like the device, but that get’s you into a whole new size of big. The Streak is still “pocket able” and offers a very nice user experience with Facebook, Twitter, RSS, and Emails.

Head on over to Dell and check it out and get yours before the sale ends.

NYC Drag Race: T-Mobile vs AT&T

December 22nd, 2010 — 10:05am written by Doug Simmons

tmobilechickservingasdragracegirlJust my T-Mobile Nexus S (effing love it), got my AT&T Nexus One still, time to get to the bottom of who kicks whose ass on the most important island in the world. New Yorkers out there, hit me with a few requests of where to do some speed tests (within Metrocard range), preferably areas you know to suck chronically either with AT&T or T-Mobile or both. Or any carrier for that matter.

I guess what I’ll try to do is go to a handful of locations with both phones and a camera, hold the two phones in front of me, starting by aiming at a street sign and then my watch or whatever for proof, and video the speed tests with the camera and then do screenshots for good measure and post the results.

dragrace2Kind of tricky, holding three expensive devices conspicuously both due to theft exposure and for elevated terroristic suspicions (we’re still sensitive about that in my city, seeing water coolers full of water or anything potentially weird), but damnit I want the truth and I ain’t tryin’ to hear no photoshopping accusations from you AT&T apologists and your anecdotal bullshit.

So hit me with a few right now, want to get this done in the interests of not paying two phone bills. Guess I’ll start with Times Square which has never not sucked with AT&T. Also if you have any reason to believe I shouldn’t run both tests simultaneously even with full signals on each phone, speak now. Also speak now if the video thing is unnecessary, if you trust me not to lie about which did which, where and when, unless you think the video would make for better entertainment.

CascadeSkier Gains Live Tile And Push Notification Support

December 21st, 2010 — 10:36pm written by David K

imageSkiers rejoice since you just got the gift of more glance and go. CascadeSkier was just updated “Version 2.2 added push notifications for live tiles and news alerts. Management of these update features is accessed through the settings button on the application bar on the front page.” Here are the app details:

View temperature, 24 hour snowfall, and total snow base data updated hourly for your favorite Pacific Northwest ski areas. For each resort, you can also view webcams, three day NOAA forecast with weather icons, and useful weather-related links.
Choose your favorite resort in the settings page, pin the tile to your home screen, and you’ll get updated temp, 24 hour snowfall, and total snow base data directly on your home screen! You can also enable news alert notifications which will arrive even when the app is not running.
Resorts include Whistler Blackcomb, Mt. Baker, Hurricane Ridge, Stevens Pass, Summit at Snoqualmie and Alpental, Mission Ridge, Crystal Mt., White Pass, Mt. Hood Meadows, Mt. Hood Ski Bowl, and Timberline.
Version 2.2 added push notifications for live tiles and news alerts. Management of these update features is accessed through the settings button on the application bar on the front page.
Version 2.1 added an application bar and improved the way live tiles are handled.
Version 2.0 adds NOAA forecasts on each resort page except Whistler which isn’t covered by NOAA. It also adds live tiles to show current weather data for your favorite resort.

So apparently live tiles have been here for a while, but I still like it. Oh and push notifications too. Good stuff. It’s just $.99 and you can grab it here from Marketplace.

Verizon Starts Loading the Marketplace For WP7 Launch

December 21st, 2010 — 10:29pm written by David K

imageVerizon branded apps are showing up in the Marketplace. This is indicating that their launch is imminent (can you say Jan 7th?). One real oddity here is that we’ve seen countless times that apps are ‘approved’ but not released into the market, so why would they release it into the market if they weren’t ready to sell it? Oh well, their misstep is our news.

The Netflix and Slacker Radio apps don’t appear to have anything special compared to the market version currently available so I’m guessing they will be preloaded on the phones. I can’t think of any other reason for it (unless there’s some free trials involved). My Verizon Mobile is just “Access your Verizon Wireless account using the My Verizon application. Find your balance, usage, payments, update Friends and Family, features and services.”
