Google’s Motorola Patent Acquisition Continues To Fail Them

March 23rd, 2013 — 10:49am

Microsoft’s Xbox has won a preliminary ruling from an ITC judge that clears them of violating a Google Motorola patent dealing with ”sensor controlled user interface for portable communication device”. This is the last patent (out of 4) that Google Motorola has in their patent case against Microsoft.

It looks for now that the 12.5 billion that Google paid out mostly to secure Motorola’s patent portfolio continues to pay little dividend in return.

Droid RAZR M and Maxx HD get Lower Pricing

January 15th, 2013 — 11:39am

wirefly-razr-hd-dealIf you are looking to get out of your old Android Device and in to something shiny and new then do check out the Motorola Droid RAZR M and Droid RAZR Maxx HD at Wirefly on sale. I have always liked the RAZR line of phones and have reviewed them here on MD. Currently I am using the Motorola Droid RAZR HD and really like it. The build quality is great and it has a much different feel to it than it’s flagship rival Samsung in the GS3. The RAZR M is a smaller cousin of the RAZR HD with a 4.3 inch Gorilla Glass screen and the Maxx HD has that 4.7 inch 720 HD Gorilla Glass screen. The M is on sale for $0.99 new customers or free for upgrades on Version. The Maxx HD is $149.99. Of course a two year contract will be included. Check out the links below for more information:

Motorola RAZR HD Launches $149.99

October 18th, 2012 — 1:39pm

motorola-droid-razr-hdI have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Motorola RAZR HD because of the long standing history with the device name. I even reviewed the rebirth to Android when Motorola brought it back here. With a sizeable 4.7 inch screen that sports some SUPER AMOLED HD technology backed by Corning’s Gorilla Glass toughness, it will be a a pleasure knowing that you have a 2050 mAh battery to keep it powered up. The RAZR HD is running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS version 4.0. Keeping with the first Android RAZR, the back side of the RAZR HD will be slicked out in a Kevlar panel. If all this and much more sounds good to you, then check out Verizon because that is the carrier that has all the of the RAZR goodness happening. However, if you want to save some money, check out our friends at Wirefly because they have the RAZR HD in White and Black on sale for $149.99 or $50 bucks off the Verizon store price. Shipping is 2-3 days however.

Consumer Cellular Introduces Two Motorola Cellphones

September 8th, 2012 — 7:05am

Looking for a new basic phone? Then Consumer Cellular might have what you want with one of their two new Motorola Phones. These phones are basic, no Android or anything like that, but sometimes basic is nice. Consumer Cellular caterers to an older crowd, they kind of specialize in retired people and those over 50 so I can see where a basic phone might be more appealing there. The phones are the Motorola WX416 which is a traditional flip phone for $35, and the EX40 which is a BlackBerry-like phone for $80.

AT&T ATRIX HD Dock is Cool But Who Wants It?

July 16th, 2012 — 2:43pm

motorola-atrix-hd-dockEvery time I see a new docking station the first thing I say is that is so cool! But the problem has always been that they are so expensive and would I really in fact use this feature? I mean, screen sizes and resolution, as well as user interface have improved so much on smartphones that I rarely find myself “needing” to get me tablet out or crack my laptop open. The geek in me wants to love this capability but I just would never use it. So my question to the readers is do you use a cocking station and how do you justify the expense?

What brings this up today is the launch of the Motorola ATRIX HD on AT&T and the docking station option for an additional fee that is also available. The dock will cost $49.99 and can be purchased from Motorola here:

HD MULTIMEDIA DOCK FOR MOTOROLA ATRIX™ 4G

The Motorola ATRIX HD Dock will allow you to connect your device to an HD Monitor or HD TV as well as add other peripherals like a USB keyboard and mouse. Check out the video below for more information and let us know if you are getting one, or have one and what you think about it.

Motorola Atrix HD Coming to AT&T July 15th

July 10th, 2012 — 10:20am

Yep, AT&T is getting a new Atrix, this one is called the Atrix HD and from what I recall the first Atrix didn’t do that well did it? They offered all of these over-priced accessories that you can now find for a large discount on those deal a day sites. I guess they’re trying to go at it again with a new version and I have to admit it does have decent specs like a 4.5” screen, an 8mp rear camera and even a 720p front facing camera. Price is $99.99 with a 2yr contract of course.

atrixhd

Beginning July 15, the Motorola ATRIX™ HD arrives in all AT&T* channels for $99.99** with a two-year agreement.

The newest addition to the popular Motorola ATRIX family, this smartphone is remarkably thin at 8.4 millimeters but doesn’t compromise strength since it is made KEVLAR® strong for incredible stability in any situation. The Motorola ATRIX HD also has a high-tech, invisible nano-coating that acts as a splash guard – not only on the outer shell, but on the electrical circuit boards inside, too.  To see more of the ATRIX HD’s features in action, check out this video.

Motorola ATRIX HD comes pre-loaded with SMARTACTIONS™, a free app from Motorola that suggests ways to automatically change your phone’s settings throughout the day to make your life easier. For instance, when you place the Motorola ATRIX HD in the Vehicle Navigation Dock accessory and enable Drive Smart, it will set your phone to vehicle mode, read your text messages aloud, auto-reply to incoming calls and texts as well as provide turn-by-turn navigation. You can also set rules for when your battery gets low by enacting the Battery Extender, which can help your battery last longer by turning off GPS, disabling background sync or other features you select.

To raise awareness of responsible driving, for a limited time, customers who purchase a Motorola ATRIX HD at participating locations will receive a Vehicle Dock at no additional charge.

The vibrant 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost™ display is the highest resolution smartphone display on the market supporting a wide range of more vibrant colors for greater detail and sharper, clearer images.  The ATRIX HD also features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video recording capabilities at 30 frames per second and zero shutter lag.  It also has a front-facing 720p HD camera.

"Our customers look to their smartphones to provide new, compelling experiences and the Motorola ATRIX HD does just that," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Devices, AT&T Mobility.  "With features that automatically customize over time to be contextually aware of the user’s daily routine and preferences, ATRIX HD is a great example of smartphones getting smarter."

"Motorola ATRIX HD was designed for people who get excited about new technology, but want it to make their life easier, feed their need for entertainment and make a statement," said Mark Shockley, senior vice president, Go-to-Market, Motorola Mobility. "This next evolution of the ATRIX family delivers a slimmer, stronger, smarter, Android-powered device at a great price."

Running on Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, the ATRIX HD is the first phone equipped with Motorola’s Circle Widget on the home screen, which connects directly with your AT&T account and displays data usage since your last bill***. Plus, it gives you "at-a-glance" access to the time, notifications, weather and battery meter. You can also access more than 600,000 apps and games on Google Play™, as well as millions of books and songs and thousands of movies and TV shows.

And to help in your work life, the Motorola ATRIX HD is ideal for business use and comes with advanced security features including password protection and inactivity timeouts, VPN, government-grade data encryption on both the device and SD card, and the ability to wipe the phone and SD card in the event your phone is lost or stolen.  With apps like Quickoffice, customers are able to create and edit documents and stay connected to their work on-the-go.

AT&T customers have access to the nation’s largest 4G network, covering more than 260 million people.  AT&T has two 4G networks that work together for customers, LTE and HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. That means AT&T customers are able to enjoy a widespread, ultra-fast and consistent 4G experience on their compatible device as they move in and out of LTE areas.  With other carriers, when you travel outside of their LTE coverage area, you’re on a much slower 3G network.

For more information, customers can visit http://www.att.com/motorolaatrixhd.

*AT&T products and services are provided or offered by subsidiaries and affiliates of AT&T Inc. under the AT&T brand and not by AT&T Inc.
**Requires eligible voice and data plans.
