Custom Ringtone Manager For Unlocked Windows Phones Is Out
|If you’re unlocked (either dev unlocked or through Chevron) you can now enjoy custom ringtones. it actually creates a custom XAP with 5 custom ringtones that you select from your computer and you then deploy them to your phone. Here are the notes:
- Ringtones have to be in the WMA format at 48KHz as required by the OS. We recommend using Expression Encoder 4 (free) to transcode any MP3s.
- Currently, to deploy the XAP you will have to use the Microsoft “Application Deployment” tool with the Windows Phone 7 Developer SDK. In the future, we hope to make available a standalone deployment solution for homebrew apps.
You can check out the details here. I’m testing it now.

You had to go and post this. Now my mod finger is getting itchy. But I think I will holdout for Microsoft. On the “My WP7 Ideas” app, its the most requested mod. Actually 40% more than both cut & paste and multitasking. At least I can get my ringtones ready with the right format. But if MS limits ringtone to paid commercial then I will have little choice.
I’m still waiting to unlock my phone as well. My push buttons are more complicated than ringtones, though ringtones would be nice. If the Death Star restricts Service Packs I will be unlocked by Lunchtime. Otherwise I trust MS will address the needs of it’s users. Uh Hmm, Flash and Copy & Paste to name a few.
On the other hand, unlocking just to say I did it may be reason enough.
C’mon, Stan, that’s always reason enough.
