The Mobility component of DLA is to voiprde a means for the disabled person to be mobile, a fundamental part of their Human Rights. Our son is in residential care and without this, he would not be able to come home and visit his family, or do any of the activities he wanted to do, when he wanted to do them. He is profoundly disabled, so public transport is not an option for him, as it is not able to cope with wheelchair access. Even if it were, he could not bear the wait, as his disabilities are too severe. He needs to be able to experience life as close to how other people without disabilities experience it and this is why the Mobility component is so important for him. If the government passed a law making it illegal for ANY public transport facilities to be inaccessible, then you may find this allows so many more disabled people to access the system, which would mean that they could do without the Mobility component.
