NBC to buy out Microsoft from MSNBC.com

Microsoft and NBC are 50:50 on MSNBC.com and for a long time NBC has wanted total control of the content. It’s a top rated news site and MS isn’t going to walk away without something in return. According to The Daily Beast though, MSNBC.com is going to drop Microsoft as an owner and just stay as NBCNews.com (which redirects to MSNBC.com currently). So we’re clear, the tv channel MSNBC is not the same as the website so that will remain as MSNBC. Yeah this all feels like Microsoft was involved in the naming (WinRT anyone?). So end result is that MSNBC, the channel, remains as is. MSNBC.com becomes NBCNews.com and Microsoft has cash in their pockets (which they need since they’re on a buying spree and need more if they want to be a player for Nokia and RIM who will both have assets on the market in some form in 2013 in all likelihood).
