Rumor suggest Verizon to delay or cancel Windows Phone 8 roll out
|The uphill battle for Windows Phone surely isn’t getting any easier. This time around, the speed bump comes in the form of Verizon. According to the rumor, Verizon requires all devices to meet a certain “remote device management” standard, which, supposedly, Windows Phone devices do not comply. As I understand it, these remote device management services include things like network settings updates and potentially device wiping.
Interestingly enough, Verizon already has a Windows Phone device, did these standards come about yesterday? Also interesting, I’d bet money the brand new iPhone 5 does not completely comply either. Sources say Microsoft is working hard to get this resolve or offer solutions, but Verizon is close to calling the whole thing off.

If it’s something that can benefit the user, then I hope Microsoft-Verizon can work things out. But if it’s simply a control thing then I hope Microsoft sticks to their guns and maintains the integrity of the platform.
Including Verizon, how many Carriers have this issue, including Carriers in China? 1? I thought so.
@Jim
I think you nailed it. If there is any disruption, like the rumor is saying, I think it is Big Red’s greediness and want to have everything. They threatened the Android OEMs, and of course Google doesn’t have any control and choice there, and got the “Droid” and they have total control on it. Now coming to Windows Phones, Microsoft has control on it and with WP7 carriers have control on updates, but WP8 reverses it and gives full control back to Microsoft. I think Big Red doesn’t like it, if the rumor is true.
Hopefully they cancel it…. Before they are stuck with numerous devices that 5 out of 100 people actually want. Not a profitable OS.

If Verizon:
Fails to support Win 8
Simply fains “not meeting our network needs” and delays by more than a week
Does not offer Win 8 high end phones such as the ATIV
Then I’ll move to AT&T. I’m not going to repeat the Iphone debacle where people waited years for it to come to Verizon. Maybe I’ll come back to Verizon in 2 years after they get a clue, and maybe I won’t ever be back.
Seems pretty funny that what 90% of the other wireless companies in the rest of the entire WORLD can manage to get accomplished, the overpaid and obviously clueless engineers at Verizon are unable to do. They want a rootkit, which doesn’t exist on Apple, but go figure. Verizon has 2 weeks to get a clue or people will leave. Love to see those Q4 subscriber losses after this mess.
Paul Thurrott put these rumors to bed. He tends to be right.
