Secure BioID Comes to Android
|Here’s an app I think I have to try, it’s called Secure BioID and it’s a security app that let’s you use your fingerprint, face and iris as security for your Android phone and you don’t need any special hardware to use it. Yeah I’m not sure how it all works either but I need to get it and see. There is a free trial version and they have plans to update it soon and regularly.
Secure Planet, a leading provider of identity and protection products for soldiers and civilians, releases their Secure BioID™-Lite Application (“App”) on Google Play, the Android marketplace. The free Secure BioID-Lite Trial app enables users to perform biometric identification searches via their Android device.
Users operate the app by creating enrollment records by capturing biographical information, barcodes, face images, iris images and/or fingerprints. Fingerprint collection will require an external fingerprint scanner and an external iris scanner is recommended for iris support. After capturing enrollments, subsequent biometric searches will identify matches along with all associated biographical information.
“This easy to use mobile solution demonstrates Secure Planet’s unique identification capabilities at no cost to the user,” said Bob Kocher, president of Secure Planet. “It can be applied as an enrollment and vetting solution for police, schools, public service, disaster management, health services and more.”
Possible law enforcement uses include field interviews, incident reporting, warrant issuance and pedestrian or roadside checkpoints.
Over the next few months, Secure Planet will introduce updated versions of the app. Presently, the app requires Android v3.1 Honeycomb OS or later. Fingerprint scanner support using the USB Futronic FS88 has been tested on a variety of tablets and phones including the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Asus Transformer Prime and Acer Iconia A500. A USB OTG adapter cable may be required for use with the Futronic FS88. For the latest app updates and biometric device support please refer to the Secure Planet web site.
