Sony Ericsson W8; the Walkman avatar of Xperia X8
|Since the launch of the first Xperia series phone, Sony Ericsson has been busy expanding its line-up of Xperia Series phones. And now, Sony Ericsson loves its Xperia series phones so much that it rebranded Xperia X8 to a Walkman phone, W8.
Except the Walkman logo everything in W8 seems to be exactly the same as in Xperia X8 – the OS, specs. So, similar to X8, W8 sports a 3 inch HVGA screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 600MHz processor and Timescape UI layered on Android 2.1 Éclair. And obviously it comes with a stereo headset as it’s a Walkman phone.
If you are disappointed by this phone just because it runs an older version of Android then you have to remember that it’s supposed to be a Walkman phone not a “smart” phone.
Although no official PR has been issued for this phone yet but we do know that this phone will be available in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam from Q2 2011 in three different colours (Azur, Metallic Red and the iconic Walkman Orange). No information on pricing is available as of now but we expect W8 to be a budget phone.
