CNN Advertising their Windows Phone App? or Microsoft?
|I was browsing CNN.com and today I happened to notice this advertisement all the way at the bottom and it caught my attention. Is this an ad that CNN put up themselves to get more people to download their app after noticing an increase in windows phone users on their site? Or is this a Microsoft advertising campaign for windows phone and windows phone apps? Anyone know the answer to this question?

I would say with 98% confidence that it would be a Microsoft ad. I don’t know this for sure though.
I would call it a partnership.
But lately I have noticed stories on CNN that seem like free advertising, particularly in Jen Westhoven’s segments, talking about companies APPS, or products, and I wondered who paid to get that story on the air?
But then again, we used to call it a “Press Release” before we became so sensitive to product placement and adds constantly thrown in our face.
Peace
There are also short ads for the App on CNN International which to me do not look like advertisement by Microsoft
If CNN is advertising this app is it really that beneficial to them? to be taking up so much real estate on their main page that I am sure they could use for other more beneficial and lucrative ads? I am starting to think it is probably some sort of partnership.
Those ads that I saw referred more to Nokia than to Microsoft so if there is a partnership it is one with Nokia. If I am not mistaken, the app was exclusive to Nokia Lumis for the first 90 days, also.
