Kik Messenger Is Available For Free For Windows Phones
|If you don’t know what Kik is, it’s an instant messaging solution that’s cross platform and has 4 million users already. So it’s like BBM except it works on Android, iPhone and now Windows Phones. And this version is apparently pretty sweet – nice enough that I got an email from Ramon this morning telling me that it’s “ its reeeeeaaaally nice”. It has live tiles and push notifications that all seem to be working as they should be. And when you think about this, the fact that there’s no ‘multitasking’ is brilliant here. There’s no app eating up your battery, you’re still getting messages and the app is noted as being lightning fast so you get the benefits of real time messaging without any downside, like a dead battery cause of an always connected app. Of course, this is just a Kik messenger so it doesn’t do other IM protocols but Mango will bring Facebook and MSN to supplement this.
Here’s the full description:

HOW DOES KIK MESSENGER COMPARE TO ALTERNATIVES?
Well, compared to SMS (texting, text messaging), Kik Messenger is freer and faster – it’s like having a real conversation with someone. In our humble opinion, we also think Kik Messenger is faster and more life-like than any other messaging app out there too. Why not see for yourself?
WHAT DOES THE PRESS THINK OF KIK MESSENGER?
“Its speed is what sets it apart from competitors..” – TechCrunch
“Kik gives text conversations a much more real-time feel.” – VentureBeat
“No wonder more than 2 million people downloaded it…” – Mashable
WPCentral put together a video of it in action:

how did they made it so fast and efficient??
@knave: well the background toasts and tiles are built into the OS. They just clearly did their testing before they released it. As for the startup time, there’s lots of ways good devs can optimize their code to load faster on WP7 and i”d bet that MS provided some technical assistance since they’ve done that on a number of occassions for big and small devs and Kik is a legit app so it wouldn’t shock me if they helped optimize it as well to make sure all of the propoer code practices were followed.
Damn…….. Is that a mango focus???
How come I don’t get any Push notifications or Live Tiles :S
Samsung Omnia 7
Add me ej1024,,
Husband & I gave it a test run and the live tile worked fine. Nice so far. I need to get more friends using it now…
@Hishamaus: go to the site and let them know that it’s an issue. There have been problems with WP7 losing push. I Tweeted and @winphonesupport said that a hard reset might be the only way to fix the problem.
I like this app a lot, but I only have like 3 contacts in it. I don’t think the “scan contacts for recommendation” is working. It didn’t come up with any matches, but I had at least one friend in my contacts that actively uses Kik.
