October 29: Windows Phone 8 officially launches
|Mary Jo Foley knows all and she’s sharing with us.
October 29 will be the official "launch" of Windows Phone 8, I am told. I’m hearing this event will likely be on the west coast, either in San Francisco or Los Angeles. (Again, I don’t know exactly where. A photo studio? Outside an Apple store?) But this is considered the "consumer launch" of the product, with handsets to be made available starting a week or two later, meaning early November, as other sources of mine had indicated.
So this will be after the iPhone launches but still there will be lots of noise as it’s just after the Windows 8 launch so you can see tons of cross-promotions in the mix. And yes, that’s two months away so mark your calendars and save your money.

Yeah it’s nice to finally see a release date… I’ve been holding on renewing my AT&T contract waiting for Win8 phones and I’m hoping these new ones will be worth the wait. From what I recall the first gen win7 phones weren’t the greatest some I’m hesitant to jump in on launch day now…
As long as they don’t have a device release on a Sunday again. Whoever scheduled that at AT&T, on a day the stores are closed, should be slugged.
