Official tkts App Available For Windows Phones
|If you’re a New Yorker or just visiting New York then you probably know about tkts which is the source of discount Broadway (and off Broadway) tickets in Times Square. For those that don’t know, it’s a booth in Times Square and prior to shows you can buy discounted seats and sometimes you can find great deals. Anyway, now there’s a Windows Phone app for it:
The Official TKTS app is the only way to get fast, accurate, real-time listings of all Broadway and Off Broadway shows available at the world famous TKTS Discount Ticket Booths in New York City.
Don’t know which show to see? That’s OK! Use this app to learn about every production listed at TKTS. If you’re looking for a New York City theatre adventure, use our Show Search feature to discover other Broadway, Off Broadway, off-Off Broadway, Dance and Music events happening all over New York.
Features:
– Real-time display of what is currently on sale at all three TKTS Discount booths.
– A comprehensive show search where you’ll find what is happening onstage in New York City – including show descriptions, performance schedules, theatre locations, accessibility information and links to official show websites.
– TDF Stages – TDF’s online theatre magazine featuring articles, videos and podcasts.
TKTS offers same-day tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway shows at discounts of up to 50% off full price. The Official TKTS app is directly linked to the display boards at the TKTS Discount Booths, so what you’re seeing, in real time, is exactly what the people waiting in line are seeing.
The TKTS Discount Booths have become an international destination for theatre lovers from the United States and around the world since 1973. There are three locations in New York City:
(1) Times Square – Broadway and 47th Street, Manhattan – "under the red steps";
(2) South Street Seaport – in the Seaport Marketplace at the corner of Front and John Streets, Manhattan; and
(3) Downtown Brooklyn – in 1 MetroTech Center, at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue Promenade, Brooklyn.
The Official TKTS app is offered exclusively by Theatre Development Fund (TDF), the not-for-profit performing arts service organization which operates the TKTS Discount Booths.
It’s in the Entertainment category for free.
It seems you will still need to stand in that long ass line to buy tickets. Being from Texas, during my 1st visit to NY, almost two decades ago, my thought was, waiting in this line for a ticket was like college registration, before the internet. I would pass by and say things like “wait for it to come out on Blockbuster”. To this day, nothing has changed execept Blockbuster is almost under and people are still standing in these lines. If you can’t by the ticket through the phone, the wait will still be long. I guess they have a agreement with the theaters not to sell online but if you could walk up to the booth and get on their secure wifi to purchase tickets. If possible, customers will still need to go down to the booths but will not have to wait in those long ass lines.
Y don’t you guys link to the apps in the marketplace. Sheesh!
@train left the station: Cause MS doesn’t make it that easy to get a good link. I’ll dig deeper but a lot of the time the ‘link’ gives you different results on PC and phone so when you open it on PC you get a ‘download this app’ prompt that doesn’t let you install it…it’s annoying enough that I’ve just avoided it but I hear ya. I’ll see what I can find.
Thx DavidK!
