Skype was having a bad week with service outages so they must have made the decision to redeem themselves by announcing video calling for iOS asap (as most speculated it was coming at CES in just about a week). Take a look at the picture as it describes what various models can do, but generally speaking, there’s video calling for all iOS devices to some degree (or viewing if you lack cameras entirely). Skype has a lot larger user base than FaceTime and obviously is cross platform so you can use it with a PC so this is a huge win for Skype and possibly the end of Facetime. I mean, if both are free and one has a massive user base regardless of platform and the other is FaceTime…well you see where this is going. It’s a big win for Skype and for iOS users.
