Today Qualcomm announced on their website and via twitter that their Snapdragon S4 CPU will be combined with the Adreno 225 GPU to power the first generation of Windows Phone 8 hardware. I know some were hoping that WP8 devices would be using the Adrena 305 GPU that is said to offer close to 4x the graphic ability of its predecessors on the S2 line that the latest Windows Phone 7.5 handsets are using.

  1. Actually, Windows Phone 8 could support any Adreno GPU and any Qualcomm CPU. Whether anyone builds the phones using that is anyone’s guess. I also have no doubt Windows Phone 8 will support other chipsets like TI’s OMAP 5.
