Lets play a little game of connect the dots. We know that the Xbox 360 Dashboard update is coming December 6. Microsoft has also stated that “starting on December 6th and continuing on an ongoing basis through the holiday months, a wealth of new content will be coming to Xbox 360. New, customized applications for television, movies, internet videos, sports and music will begin rolling out from world-leading providers in more than 20 countries.” That’s a tip of the hat to the Xbox TV content providers as they noted that’s also a December 6 release (commencement at least). And what’s the third piece of the Xbox rollout? Yup it’s the Windows Phone Xbox companion app that they’ve been a bit quiet about. It has all of the tie-ins that the dashboard and tv rollout include so they all seem to be connected. On October 5 it was noted as “coming soon” and they showed it off at Nokia World at the end of October. That demo is done using the Xbox updated dashboard. So one leads to the other leads to the other and I think it’s their mega release day.
Yes, it’s speculation, but I think it’ time to start getting excited for the trifecta and the quick holiday marketing blitz that comes with the meshing of all of your media experiences – games, music, video, tv and phone living in harmony. Can’t wait for the commercials.
