OCZ Blade ST 2000MHz Low Voltage DDR3 Memory @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: The default speed for a 2:10 multiplier on a Core i3/i5 CPU is 1333MHz, and most will know too well that that even lower priced Intel H55/P55 Motherboards can support a 200 BCLK. If you like to dabble in the dark art of overclocking there are a few good reasons to choose a 2000MHz (PC3-16000) RAM kit. Firstly you have the options of lower voltage and tighter timings at lower speeds, and next you have the added benefit of higher memory bandwidth at the top speed. Last but not least though is the overclocking headroom, sure you could try to push your 1600MHz kit to 2000MHz but there are not too many kits that will do that, and you will certainly have to pay a premium. OCZ have a broad range of DDR3 RAM from basic to extreme, today Benchmark reviews will be testing the Blade ST 2000MHz Low Voltage Dual Channel 4GB Kit (PN: OCZ3BST2000LV4GK) for your reading pleasure.

Last week, Adata asked us to checkout their "Military-Specification" High Speed 16Gb USB2.0 flash drive. According to Adata, this USB flash drive is meant to be waterproof and shock resistant. So when the drive arrived at our labs, we were more than happy to give it a blast!!

Part 1: Waterproof demonstration of the Adata S007 Ultra Rugged USB2.0 Flash Drive. Checkout our video clip below (click "Read more") … it shows how we dunk the unit into a bowl of water, then immediately use it on our notebook … with NO problems whatsoever. Coming soon in Part 2, we will smash the flash drive with a hammer and see much shock it can really withstand. It’s ALL fun 😉

Unsung Heroes: 14 Years of Hard Drive Performance

http://hothardware.com/Reviews/Unsung-Heroes-14-Years-of-HDD-Performance/

When the likes of WD or Seagate launch a new hard drive, the product is hailed as a more efficient means of storing data. Useful? Very. High class or sexy? Not so much. You’ve got to admit that hard drives have gotten a bum rap. Granted, they’re still the slowest part of the system, but HDD manufacturers deserve a bit more credit than they typically get.
We decided to take a look at how standard, spinning hard drive performance has evolved over the past 14 years. We rounded up a representative group of hard drives, formatted them, scanned them for bad sectors, and ran a few modern benchmarks to see how much performance has improved.

Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 32GB USB3
Quote: " Another flash drive? You’re probably sick of seeing flash drive reviews that basically show a slow device with a moderate capacity. This is different. The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate is a new USB3 version with write speeds of 60MB/s and reads of 80MB/s. This is more like a SSD than a flash drive. "

ASRock ION3D (152B with Bluray) Review featuring Cyberlink

Defining a ‘media PC’ is a difficult proposition, everyone has a different view on what makes a perfect HTPC computer. Some users will aim for high performance components in a large chassis while others will opt for the smallest possible physical footprint with virtual silence.

Today’s review of the ASRock ION3D computer falls firmly into the latter category as it features a low power Intel Atom D525 processor with nVidia graphics.

With a retail price around £450 (inc vat) this looks on paper to be one of the more exciting mid range NAS solutions.

ASUS VG236H 3D-Vision Monitor Set @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: We live in a three-dimensional world, and yet we settle for a 2D virtual world while sitting in front of computers. The price of 3D-capable monitors isn’t affordable for budget buyers, just like LCD monitors weren’t value priced when they began showing up on shelf space beside CRT monitors, and yet they eventually became the industry standard. ASUS knows a thing or two about the computer hardware industry, and the ASUS VG236H 120Hz widescreen LCD monitor with bundled NVIDIA 3D-Vision kit could help take 3D mainstream. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology feature using stereoscopic 3D effects on this 23.6 inch monitor in single-unit and triple-display 3D-Vision Surround configurations.

Quick Review: Warpia PC-to-TV SWP100A Audio/Video Wireless Adapter
QUOTE: "The idea of outputting content from a PC to a TV has become somewhat limited in its usefulness, what with all the media boxes and Blu-ray players with Netflix, Blockbuster, Pandora and all the other apps that allow you to easily consume your online and digital media content. Take my current setup for example; I can watch the aforementioned online services as well as movies in a wide variety of formats and even DRM’d iTunes content. The only thing I can’t do is show PowerPoint slides, watch Hulu (though if you have a PS3 or Blu-ray player with the option to install such an app, you can make that happen), or play any of my Steam games on the big screen.
Granted it’s a small list, but every now and then I run across some media that won’t play on one of my devices (that the VideoLAN media player handles with ease) and having the ability to wirelessly stream to a TV can come in handy at times, so I was hoping the Warpia PC-to-TV wireless adapter would be an easy-to-use and powerful device that would provide such a feature."

Apple iPod Touch (4th generation) Review
"Three years after Apple stretched the definition of "personal media player" to new heights with its class-leading iPod Touch, other manufacturers are just starting to catch up with Android-powered mini tablets. Despite the added competition, the latest revision of the device stays true to its award-winning heritage while folding in even more trickle-down features from the latest iPhone, yet again securing it a place at the top of the MP3-player pyramid."

Cooler Master Choiix Boom Boom Portable Speaker Review @ Tweaknews
Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/cooler_master_choiix_boom_boom/
Article Snippet: "Cooler Master’s idea of the Boom Boom speaker is great – a compact, portable speaker that can be used while on the road with a laptop, MP3 player, or phone will appeal to many consumers. The end result from Choiix is a product that does have some strong points but still leaves a bit to be desired."

Mobility Digest Review: Earjax Moxy Earbuds

I don’t know about you but I use my phone for more than a phone, and if you have a smartphone I’m sure you do as well or you’re wasting it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate that I love and it features a great stock music player, at least I think it is and I use it whenever I can. The Captivate does come with headphones but they’re not that great, at least I don’t think they are so I don’t use them. I like my music to sound good, so I use good headphones or earbuds actually. Today for review I’ve got a set of very good earbuds from a company called Earjax and they’re called the Moxy. They’re very well made and they sound great. One of the great things about these eabuds is that when you buy them, you’re not only getting a great set of earbuds but they’ll donate a portion of the proceeds to the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

Ozaki iMini Cute iPod Dock Review

Mobile Fun has sent us over the Ozaki iMini Cute iPod Dock, and well it’s an iPod dock, but it’s also an FM radio and a clock and an external speaker. Overall it’s not a bad little product, you can use either batteries or regular AC power with it and the sound is surprisingly good for such a small set of speakers.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 Review
"HD video capability on cameras is as common as trashy political ads on TV. Most digicams capture 720p clips, but several new ones take Full HD movies such as the just-released 14-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100. Does this get us to the point we can put our old high-def camcorders on Craigslist? Time to test out this new 24x wide-angle zoom model."

Here is a snippet:"Inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras have become quite feature-laden. Manufacturers are struggling to bring the user added functionality like smart capture, face recognition, and HD video capture, while keeping the cameras easy-to-use. Kodak has so much experience in this field that we were excited to take a look at one of their EasyShare digital cameras, the M580. This camera is designed to not only be easy to operate, but to make sharing pictures and videos extremely simple. "

Samsung PN58C6400 58 Inch Plasma TV Review @ Tweaknews
Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/samsung_pn58c6400_58_inch_plasma_tv_review/
Article Snippet:
"With every new model year, I grit my teeth and wince while viewing my favorite programming hoping and praying that a company hasn’t screwed up a great product by trying to reinvent the wheel with every product cycle. With that in mind, I was glad that the PN58C6400 was more or less the same TV as last year’s model with some minor design tweaks and very little difference in terms of visual quality. But where this Plasma TV excels is when you focus on its size and what it accomplishes while only consuming half the power of the previous model."

Mobility Digest Review – Energizer AP1201 iPhone 4 Case and Charger

Energizer recently released the new AP1201 Silicone case and battery backup/charger for the iPhone 4.  Since I’ve been using this case, I’ve been getting about 8 to 12 solid hours of constant usage from the energizer battery alone before the iPhone battery takes over for main duty.  The 8-12 hours was a lot of heavy usage.  Video, Audio streaming, gaming, browsing, and tethering.  This makes that iPhone 4’s already impressive smartphone battery life, nearly twice as good.

Mobility Digest Review: OtterBox Defender Series for HTC HD2

I know you all must be wondering how many more OtterBox Cases I have left to review and I can tell you that this is the last one I have to review for a while. I had to take a little bit of time off from reviewing products so I am trying to get back into the swing of things and caught up. Good news is I have 4 more reviews scheduled so stay tuned!  Today, however, I have the OtterBox Defender Series Case for the HTC HD2 International Device. The International version of the HTC HD2 is different than the T-mobile release of the HD2 so you need to make sure that you are ordering the right one. We started off the OtterBox Case Reviews with the Commuter Series for the HTC HD2 that you can read here: CLICK HERE. There is a pretty significant difference in the two cases. The Commuter Series is a less bulky case that has a polycarbonate back cover and silicone insert that slips over the device. OtterBox also supplies a Heavy Duty Screen Protector. The Defender Series Case by OtterBox is simply the Ultimate in device protection. Hence the name coined by OtterBox, The Defender Series. One look and I am confident you will agree, this is simply the toughest case money can buy for the HTC HD2.

Apple MacBook Air (11.6-inch) Review
"Anyone who recalls Steve Jobs railing against netbooks at the launch of the iPad might have been puzzled when the same guy revealed the latest addition to the MacBook Air line in October. With an 11.6-inch screen, barebones processor, no optical drive and all solid state storage, it wouldn’t seem like a stretch to throw it in with a handful of similar models from Asus, Acer and Dell."

Quick Review: Skin your life with GelaSkins
QUOTE: "Like me, you may’ve heard of GelaSkins before. You might’ve also thought the company really only did skins for mobile phones. I now know they don’t; instead they do skins for a large amount of devices and we’re going to show you what’s going on with them in a big way today.
Outside of just the consoles we’ve got a large range of e-Book readers, just about iPod everything including the brand new Nano and Touch. Microsoft also gets some love with skins available for the Zune. Laptop / Netbook support is really strong with particular models being covered also just general sizes being covered. Of course, you’ve also got phone support which just covers an absolute huge array of brands and models."

Testing this set of cables is really, really straightforward.  I plugged them into my iPod Touch 2G and hooked them to a TV.  Nothing happened.  I unplugged them, checked the connection and tried again.  This time I got a "Device not recognized" error on my iPod.  Great.  I consulted the manual and it stated that this can happen and if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.  I did and on the fifth attempt, I got it to work. . .

Turning PC into Apple Macintosh: Hackintosh @ Benchmark Reviews

DESCRIPTION: A "Hackintosh" is a computer that runs Apple’s OS X operating system on non-Apple hardware. This has been possible since Apple’s switch from IBM’s PowerPC processors to Intel processors a few years ago. Until recently, building a PC-based Mac was something done only by hard-core hackers and technophiles, but in the last few months, building a Hackintosh PC has become much easier. Benchmark Reviews looks at what it’s possible to do with PC hardware and the Mac Snow Leopard OS today, and the pros and cons of the building a Hackintosh computer system over purchasing a supported Apple Mac Pro.

AIDA64 Takes the Benchmark Torch from Everest @ [OC]ModShop

If you’ve been a fan of OCModShop (or any tech site for that matter), then you’ve no doubt heard of Everest. Everest is one of the premiere benchmarking suites that hardware enthusiasts use to test their motherboards, video cards, memory, and just about everything related to computers.
Some have wondered what has happened to Everest, as there hasn’t been an update in a long while. You needen’t worry any longer, because Lavasys (the publishers of Everest) have passed the torch to FinalWire. FinalWire calls their new and improved version of the classic benchmarking software "AIDA64", and version 1.20 of the software was released yesterday.

How to read and write files in NTFS format using your Apple Mac

"Ok, here’s a quick and brief explanation. By default Mac OSX is capable of browsing and reading files that is saved in NTFS format, however, it does not provide the option to write/delete files in NTFS. In order to perform full write or delete operations, you’ll need some open source software. These software have been around for years, and I’ve been using them on my Powerbook and Macbook to read/write or transfer files between NTFS and native OSX file system."

Quick Review: Rosewill RK-V1TP Wireless Touchpad Keyboard
QUOTE: "The HTPC is becoming a more and more common part of many households. From streaming movies, music, and television to your big screen to simply doing a little websurfing from the comfort of your couch, using the computer doesn’t mean having to sit at a desk anymore. Unfortunately, a standard keyboard and mouse combination isn’t usually the best solution when you’re talking about using your computer from your easy chair.
This is where Rosewill’s Wireless Touchpad Keyboard comes into play. Combining a fully functional keyboard with a touchpad for mouse functions in a small, lap friendly package seems to be the perfect fit for using the computer away from the typical desk scenario. Let’s see if this keyboard can deliver what the HTPC user needs."
