Nokia Acknowledges Lumia 900 Connectivity Bug–Software Update and $100 Credit Being offered
There have been complaints of the Lumia 900 having connectivity issues and it was unclear what the issue was. Well now we now. Nokia has acknowledged a driver issue related to memory management that can lead to connectivity issues. So, what are they doing about it? A software fix is coming on April 16. If you’re impatient you can go get an updated phone now. In either event, you also get a $100 credit on your AT&T bill, even if you haven’t bought the phone yet and buy it before April 21. I have to say, the issue may have been a nuisance but what a response. This makes on contract phones free. Here’s the complete statement:
This has been a memorable few months for Nokia in the US. After an award-winning product introduction at CES, followed by an incredible awareness campaign (in which we decked Times Square out in a range of colors), the stars were aligned for a successful sales start for the Lumia 900 at AT&T. On Monday, we saw that kind of a kick-off come to fruition, with a very positive response on day one.
However, soon after AT&T began selling this flagship device, we identified a software issue. In short, a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity. As a proactive and prudent measure, we decided, together with AT&T, to take immediate action. We have identified the issue, and have developed a solution.
If you have already purchased a Lumia 900, we are making two options available to you:
• You will be able to update your device with the latest software via Zune on or around Monday, April 16th.
or
• Swap your current Lumia 900 for an updated Lumia 900
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. As a gesture of good will, every individual who has already purchased a Nokia Lumia 900 — or who will purchase one between now and April 21st – will receive a $100 credit to their AT&T bill.

Curious as to how HTC would handled the situation. Two to three months of denial. Two to three months of development and testing. Two to three months of getting around to releasing an update. Oh, hold up there. New model releasing. Ok, back on track. Now what was that problem again?
I can tell you how HTC would handle it, from the debacle that is wifi not working after using tethering on my Radar, and that is to do diddly squat while still selling the phone! So frustrating that this phone is not available on Tmobile, but lesson learned, my last htc regardless if they are the only choice for a WP8 handset on Tmo this year.
Now they are REALLY killing me. I’m able to upgrade my surround but I’ve been holding off (barely) because I’ve decided I’d rather wait until windows 8 devices come available. I love the Lumia 900 but I can’t see getting into a new two year agreement with something new coming at the end of the year. Now you’re telling me I can get a 900 before 4/21 and get credited back the whole amount for the phone?

Yep. So you get the phone for free. And you have to assume that the phone will be worth $200 on eBay/Craigs List in 6 months. So if you just have to have the first WP8 that comes out possibly this fall, your investment might be about $249.00, off contract.
Loving my L900. It will definitely will hold me over till the first gen WP8s arrive Q4/2012, and probably the next wave in Q1/2013. That’s about when I expect to be itching for a new phone. No sooner.
