It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Krashlander for Windows Phones and since the free/ad supported version has been released it’s shot up to 14th in all games and 29th for all apps even though it was only released on February 23. It’s already exceeded 1,000,000 ad impressions though. Beyond that, it’s showing the power of free. Jeff weber, the developer, notes “In 4.5 months, Krashlander Paid dl’d 18,500 times. After 11 days, Krashlander Free dl’d 25,000 times.”
It’s a great game and congrats to Jeff. Of course, we’ll also keep an eye on this to see how the market handles the lure of free/ad based apps compared to their paid counterparts. People always say that they’ll pay the dollar to get a game without ads – let’s see if that holds up in reality and if the free game leads to a conversion in paid licenses. I doubt it though.
