Microsoft Moves to Being Carbon Neutral as of June 1
Microsoft has announced that they are moving to becoming carbon neutral as of July 1 for all of their “direct operations including data centers, software development labs, air travel, and office buildings.” This is a combination of reduction in use, utilizing green power and being accountable for their carbon emissions. On top of this, internally they are charging their own business units for their carbon emissions to hold each division accountable for their carbon costs. This is one of a series of ‘green’ initiatives that Microsoft has been a part of and they’re doing this to be a model. They’re currently the third largest purchaser of green power in the US and represent 46% of all green power.
